My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Axel is a 5 year old German Wirehaired Pointer that had an unknown injury to her spine almost 2 years ago causing hind end paralysis. She came to Heath's Haven in April and she's a really sweet girl! She does well with dogs, cats, and children. She is an independent girl that loves to be outdoors in her wheelchair (that will go with her to her forever home) and she enjoys spending time with her people. She is a good girl and stands still while you put her in her wheelchair and take her out. When she is not in her wheelchair she can scoot around on her own...and she's fast so she'll need boots to keep her from getting sores on her legs! Axel gets a little stressed with loud noises like thunder, gunshots, and fireworks so she prefers a dark safe place with a fan or radio when these loud noises are present.

Axel will need a home that can express her bladder 3 times per day, but don't worry it's really easy to learn and simple to do! The best time to express her bladder is first thing in the morning, before bedtime, and once or twice in between. She is also fecal incontinent and is managed well on a raw diet, on a regular schedule. This diet helps keep her stools small and firm so they are easy to pick up and keeps her hind end clean. Axel is current on vaccines/dewormer/flea & tick preventative, spayed, microchipped, and crate trained.
