Maya is the classic TV personality for a Golden; joyous, loving and sometimes silly. She leans into your leg & presses her face into your thigh, she will lay with her head across your lap, she loves everyone and wants to give back nothing but love. She listens well, signals when she has to go out and never ever does any bad dog behaviors; no counter surfing, no trash diving, no chewing...nothing unwanted. She loves to play and her toy collection is very important to her. She loves kids but is too exuberant with toddlers and could accidentally hurt them by pawing or bumping into them. She is curious so far about cats but we are not sure if she will live well with them. So far she has just become interested and perks up in their presence. She loves to play with other dogs but should probably be the only dog in the home because she has a tender & sore ACL, from playing too rough with other dogs. Her ACL simply requires surgery which is schedule for Mid May and rehab of hydrotherapy, laser therapy and at home physical therapy for up to a year. A fund is being created to help pay for up to 1/2 of her surgery which costs about $2400 before the fund's contribution. Once completed with rehab she should be better than new! She is on inexpensive thyroid meds but is otherwise healthy and full of life.
She is food oriented which makes her very easy to train. She pulls hard on leash and has been known in her past to runaway so public training classes with the distraction of other dogs is a 2nd requirement with her. Speaking of her past, she comes from a loving family life where circumstances changed and they needed to find another home for her. She normally stays off furniture unless invited but jumps in bed with my wife everyday to tell her it is time to get up. She is rusty but knows her basic commands and is completely housebroken. Her greatest joy is to be with her person and also go for hikes. She'll need a fenced or e-fenced yard since she has been known to run away. Her activity level needs to be moderated so she can heal her sore ACL. Jogging and running loose in a dog park or fenced area are not good for her ACL for a while. Hopefully, that will improve in 3-4 months.
She barks at strangers and then wags with excitement when they come in the door. She gently carries around toys and usually does not tear them up unless she is anxious. She is content being by your side or on her pillow-bed and knows the phrase 'go lie down.' She loves car rides and rides very well by generally lying down and sleeping. She is skittish of new things and loud noises but adjusts quickly given time. She would love an adult home but animal-aware young people would be good as well. She loves hiking so dig out your hiking shoes. She loves loving so be prepared for lots of snuggling.
She is an amazing, wonderful sweet spayed, micro chipped, 60lb, UTD 4yo girl. Her DOB is 2/2/11. If you want a dog that will lean into you for comfort, snuggle with you, enjoys meeting everyone; Maya is for you.
