My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update 7/8/2016 Axl a 8lb 6oz bundle of Yorkie Love being fostered in Winston Salem NC. His adoption fee is $325.00

Equipped with Kisses for Everyone!

A snuggle buddy??? . . . youbetcha!

Previous reports on this special pup was not so promising . . . fear of kidney disorders however . . . after his visit with Carolina Veterinary Specialist . . and he got his Kidney Ultrasound results they write:

“Both kidneys are architecturally normal. The remainder of the abdomen is unremarkable, including spleen, liver, gall bladder, adrenals, GI tract, urinary bladder and prostate. Conclusions. Normal abdominal study”

The proof is in the pudding, and this handsome little pudd’thang is healthy with no kidney disorders, and this foster mom has the papers to prove it.

Now, more about this remarkable little Yorkie! Axl recently went on a road trip (1-way 6 hours) and I can confess, he is the best traveling dog I have seen! He was great in the car. The hotel attendants as well as the guest all loved him. He was very friendly, and he had no stress issues. He ate well, went out like a champ, quickly adjusting to his surroundings and was really, no trouble at all. A dream come true for a Roadie Pup! Axl loves to play with soft toys and will tug and growl in play just like he has a complete set of teeth holding those little toys. (Remember he has no teeth due to the extent of sinus infections he had upon rescue arrival, they were extracted – a plus for his new owner – no dental cost!) He has his own little blanket made especially for him by the Furblanketeers. Mostly house broke, loves to go outside with his person to walk, run and play among the grass and does well on a leash. He loves to munch on the grass as well, doesn’t make him sick like a lot of dogs, he just likes it!

Axl is up to date on all shots and vaccinations. He is mainly on a soft diet, but he still munches on dry food, as I leave out for snacks. Pet Smart’s Hill’s Science Diet, Chicken & Barley Entrée, and Nutro Tender Chicken Rice & Oatmeal, both loaf / pate blends, and I add boiled chicken breast to each meal. Upon his arrival he was hardly 7lbs and now he is 8 lbs and 6oz of total Yorkie love. Dogtor Jeni reports his body mass and overall appearance has improved considerably.

Although Axl’s suspicious protein content in his urine is curious, and his labs indicated Proteniuria, he is now diagnosed NOT to have Proteniuria, but believe it is prudent to continue to monitor him. Dogtor Jeni is stopping the use of Enalapri Maleate (his kidney medication) immediately! No more kidney medication, he doesn’t need it.

Axl still remains to have sinus/allergy problems. As stated in previous bios, this condition is usually treated with prednisone; however, we will continue the use of the Apoquel 3.6mg knowing that prolong use of prednisone is a contributing factor to kidney disease in small pups. So NO prednisone for this pup! Apoquel is given in ½ tablet increments. When showing symptoms of sinus/allergy problems, dosage is ½ tablet 2x per day. Once his symptoms subside, reduce to ½ per day and then following a few good days of decreased symptoms reduce to ½ tablet every other day to help ward off symptoms.

Axl is such a sweet lovable boy and is happy following his person around the house, riding in the car, going to the park and any activity that he can be with his person. Axl is a very special boy and his happiness is most important. Remember – no crates, he does fine with a gate. Must have belly rubs. If you would like to make your home Axl’s furerver home please complete an application for his adoption at http://www.unitedyorkierescue.org
