Here's what the humans have to say about me:
**Mags is currently being fostered in Houston. She is available for out-of-state adoption to the perfect family. Her out-of-state fee is $500 which includes flight and a kennel. She is fully vetted and healthy. Because the flights and care of the dogs are so expensive, the adoption fee is non-negotiable.**
Our sweetest little Mags and her litter mates found themselves living under a shed in a rundown part of Houston. They were taken to a local shelter where one by one, her siblings were adopted. But, black dogs are always harder to adopt and after being at the shelter a few weeks, the shelter asked if we could make room in our rescue so that she would stay healthy and find an amazing family. One look at her little face and her foster mom could not drive to the shelter fast enough to get her out!
Mags is believed to be a roughly 12 week old Australian Cattle Dog / Lab mix. Mags is currently around 15 pounds and we anticipate that she will be in the mid 50-60 pound mark when she is full grown. She is a super smart girl that has taken really well to her house and kennel training. She is even learning how to play fetch with her foster mom! Because Mags is a mix of two active breeds, she will be best suited for a family that has the time and space to give her proper exercise and stimulation to keep her occupied and out of trouble. She could live in an apartment or condo setting as long as her family is committed to getting her enough exercise and socialization.
Mags is still a very young puppy, so her adoptive family will need to be prepared to continue the amazing work her foster family has started in terms of training and socialization. She is doing well on house training, but will likely still have accidents as she acclimates to her new home. She is also going to do all of the stuff that puppies do…get into things, chew on things, wake up in the middle of the night to potty, so we are seeking a family who is patient and believes in positive reinforcement.
Mags has been well socialized in her foster home and is currently living with three other dogs. She has not been around cats, but since she is a puppy, we believe she can be taught to coexist peacefully with a kitty friend. While Mags would be great in a family that already has pets, she would also be fine as a solo pet as long as her family is committed to keeping up with her socialization with other dogs.
Carson has received full vet care (vaccinations, spay, deworming, microchip) and is healthy and vibrant. Although she is very young, the shelter would not release her without her being spayed, but our vet has examined her and determined she has healed very well from her surgery. She is too you to get started on heartworm prevention, but has been on flea prevention since coming into the rescue.
The first step in our adoption process is to fill out an adoption application through our website at www.reggiesfriends.org. Please hover over the adoptables tab for a link to the application. We can generally process applications within 5-7 days and would like adoptive families to be able to take custody of the dog within two weeks of the process being finalized.
If you have any questions about Mags or the process of adopting long-distance, please email us at adopitons@reggiesfriends.org
