Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Daisy is best described as a gentle giant. She’s a very tall, very gentle 2-year –old Anatolian Shepherd. We don’t have enough experience with the breed to say whether she’s purebred or not, but she looks pretty close to us.
If you asked Daisy what she wanted for Christmas, she’d answer another dog to play with. There are other dogs in her foster home, but none of them have any interest in playing. She’ll get in classic crouch position, her rear end way up in the air, trying to get some action out of them, but they either ignore her or charge her, in which case she backs right down. (Daisy is a very submissive dog.) So she amuses herself.
One of her favorite outdoor activities is to chase the neighborhood squirrels. There is one particular squirrel who taunts her, staying up in the tree just out of reach and waving his little squirrel butt at her. It drives her nuts! Not to worry—she’ll never actually catch a squirrel. She just likes to chase them.
Indoors, she likes to play with her toys. She tosses them in the air and catches them. Her favorite toy is a stuffed squeak turkey. Mysteriously, the turkey toy has recently shown up missing his feet. . .
Much as Daisy likes to play, she likes to lay around and do nothing even more. Daisy has been a couch dog from the moment she set foot in her foster home. She jumps up on the couch and sprawls out like it’s her kingdom, lazily surveying the living room.
If she’s not sprawled out on the couch, she likes to sprawl on the bed. When she first arrived at her foster home, she slept in a dog bed on the floor. But as time went on, she thought to herself, “Hmmmmm. . .other dogs in nice, warm bed. . .me on cold, lonely floor. . .” and from that time on, she has slept in her foster’s bed.
When she lays down to sleep, she stretches out and makes adorably cute little moaning noises, as if to say, “I am sooooooo comfortable here in Dogmom’s bed.” She sleeps through the night with no problem, and she’s fantastic to wake up to.
In the morning, you get snuggles—she rubs her face and body up against you. If you happen to be in the mood to give it, she will gladly accept a tummy rub. You may get an occasional arm lick, but Daisy doesn’t give kisses. Her foster has tried. You might consider it a blessing that a dog with a tongue this size does not give kisses!
Daisy has her manners down. She is completely submissive around other dogs. In addition , she’s very gentle with people—no jumping up on you, which is a good thing since she’d knock you clean over. She is housetrained. She is trained to sit and to shake—with both paws. She is very good on a leash.
One area in which she is not so well-mannered. . . Daisy is a counter-surfer, which she’s easily tall enough to do. So if you leave foodstuffs and such on the counter, they will go the way of the toy turkey’s feet and mysteriously disappear.
Daisy needs a home that is active. Another dog to play with would be ideal, but she’s also be happy with a couple of rambunctious kids. She needs room to run and regular walks or other exercise to be at her best. No crates—she’ll harm herself trying to get out. And right now, she needs food—lots of it. She is still very underweight, in spite of our best efforts to fatten her up.
We believe Daisy has been abused. She cowers when there are fast movements. She can be skittish around men. She knows very well when she’s being scolded, and it scares her. In spite of all of this, Daisy is always happy, always smiling, always loving. She’s a beautiful, sweet-tempered, laid-back dog who deserves a good home.
