Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Athena is a young mixed breed dog that came to Heath's Haven Rescue in March from a shelter in California. She is a small girl, about 7 pounds and we think she is about 2-3 years old. We were contacted because she was not able to use her hind legs and did not know when she had to eliminate her bladder or bowels. Once she arrived, we immediately took her to the neurological specialists at WSU and she was having spinal surgery the next day. The surgeon removed multiple bone fragments that were putting pressure on her spinal cord and causing her paralysis and incontinence.
After 6 weeks of recovery, rehab, and physical therapy, Athena can now walk and run and play! She regained complete control of her bladder and bowels and is already housetrained! Athena is a very special girl looking for a very special home! You see, Athena was most likely abused by her previous people, and she has a hard time trusting new people at first. Once she gets to know you she gets attached very quickly. Athena is a very spunky girl with lots of energy! She can go on leash walks and even do a stair or two. We are recommending a home without children as fast movements and loud noises frighten Athena. Athena does great with other dogs and does well with cats. She is current on vaccines, spayed, microchipped, and crate trained.
