Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Leo is a purebred dachshund. He is SO handsome; pictures do not do him justice!
He is 2 yrs old and weighs around 10 lbs.
Leo is outgoing, friendly and gentle. He has never met a stranger and believes that every new person he meets should be his best friend.
Leo plays with the resident foster puppy and other smaller dogs. He has the typical dachshund big-dog attitude if other dogs get rude or pushy with him. He is very friendly to other dogs unless they are not friendly with him. He will not back down from the other dog though.
Leo can only be described as a very happy dog. He loves to be with you, he loves to be held or snuggled with. He burrows underneath the blankets at night and likes to be snuggled up as close to you as possible.
Leo is doing well with his house training and is crate trained. He has not shown toy possessiveness with humans but he will usually try to steal toys from the other dogs and then run to hide the toy!
Leo would make a great addition to a social family where he has lots of interactions with people --- where there are lots of people to adore him and give him attention.
Leo is fostered in Chattanooga, but a meet and greet in Atlanta can be arranged by appointment.
Please email for an adoption application (Microsoft Word format).
Prior to adoptions, all dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated (age appropriate), heartworm tested, microchipped and are kept up to date on flea/tick and heartworm preventative.
Adoption fees are $300 for dogs up to 8 years of age and $200 for 8+ years.
SOMAD is a private, all volunteer, foster-home based rescue group. Please be patient as we answer your inquiries; we do our best to answer emails within a day, however volume and regular life schedules sometimes delay us.
