Here's what the humans have to say about me:
ADOPTION PENDING Hello, folks. I'm Vander, and although I'm only 2 years old, my life story could easily be made into a TV movie. But it wouldn't be a show that anyone would want to watch. I've been to hell and back.
The people who originally owned me used me as a bait dog (that means that they would set nasty dogs loose on me to attack me). I was often beaten within an inch of my life, because my owners thought that made them look tough. Just when I thought my soul and body couldn't take any more, my owners took me for a drive and threw me out of the truck before I knew what was happening.
As I lay in that snowy ravine, I thought I was dead, but I so wanted to live. (Sadly this is a common fate for pit bulls that either will not fight or who lose fights.....the injured dog is generally left in nearby woods or thrown from a moving car and left for wild animals to feast on, while still alive.)
I didn't know it then, but the person who found me laying there bloody, battered, and slowly freezing to death from the snowy cold is called a humane officer. Someone had seen me being thrown out of that truck and reported it.
You might think that because of my background and the pain I've endured that I would hate people, but as is often the case, I am a complete sweetheart. My external wounds are healing, and I need to find a home with some TLC so that my inside scars can heal, too. I never, ever act aggressively, and everyone that's met me has said that I'm super-sweet.
I am great with kids (I've been tested with kids as young as 2 years old), good with cats and great with other non-confrontational dogs....bait dogs don't get into arguments: that's why they are used as bait dogs.
I am mostly housebroken and crate trained. I am neutered, have all of my vaccines, been started on heartworm prevention and flea/tick prevention, and am microchipped.
I am looking for an indoor home only. A completed adoption application, adoption fee, home visit(s), references, and contract are REQUIRED for adoption. We will not adopt to a municipality where pit bulls are illegal.
Vander is ready for a loving, forever home with someone who can commit to him for the rest of his life.
