Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Birdie is fostered in Bettendorf Iowa 52722 through United Yorkie Rescue http://unitedyorkierescue.org. To find out more about her, contact her foster mamma at: ayrisen@gmail.com.
Birdie is a 6yr old Yorkie puppy mill rescue, who came to United Yorkie Rescue in March 2016. She weighs 8lbs and is the prettiest blonde girl you’ve ever seen. Being a puppy mill survivor, she’s learning what being a loved pet is all about. She needs an experienced person who understands puppy mill dogs, she’ll need lots of love and patience. Having another small dog in her forever home would be a plus as the resident dog would help reassure her, help teach her and provide the only companionship she’s ever known: puppy mill dogs don’t get much human socialization, other dogs are their only companionship.
Birdie is working on trusting her people, learning to be more confident and less anxious. She prefers to be in her kennel still, and foster mamma works with her on coming out and socializing, which is a slow process for this little girl, she’s very shy. She’s started wagging her tail and giving little kisses to show how appreciative she is of her new life. She gets anxious when traveling and will get an upset tummy, which will hopefully get better in time as she comes out of her shell.
Birdie came to United Yorkie Rescue unwell; she suffers from Mitral Insufficiency which will require regular follow ups. She had cracked and chipped teeth, resulting in many teeth pulled. She ravages her food like she won’t get anything every again, so her feedings are monitored to slow her down as she learns there will be more, and it’s quality food in her dish. Xrays show she’s suffered from chronic Bronchitis, and she has a weak trachea so she will always need to be walked on a harness (collars are for displaying your charms anyway, not for walking a dog). She has hypertension which has been brought under control with blood pressure meds which she takes well with her meals. She is on her way to better health and is started to look so much happier already!
Birdie deserves a very special home after her years of suffering, a family who understands and will shower her with all the love she deserves and patience as she learns how to be a dog. Because of her size, and shyness, a home with older children only and a fenced yard is preferred. Birdie would love to retire in a quiet home surrounded by love and never have to worry again about her past.
