Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Merrick is a 3 year old male German Shepherd Dog in need of a loving family to welcome him into their home and lives!
We deal almost exclusively with GSD rescues and very rarely see better looking dogs than this guy -- he is just striking, an absolutely gorgeous animal with an extremely soft coat.
He's not listed as a purebred, as we do not have paperwork and based on is facial structure, we believe he may have some Wolf-blood in him, but regardless, man, what an animal!
Personality-wise, Merrick is friendly and fun, but a very high-drive dog. He is currently in-tact and around a 100 pounds, so he is certainly a lot to handle. He needs consistent obedience work and a strong leader to keep his manners in check. Getting neutered will help things a great deal in that regard and make him easier to handle -- our rescue is run out of pocket and we hope to have him neutered soon, but are only able do so as funds allow. That said, we are making him available at this time and would let him go with a neutering-agreement from the adoptee.
Socially, he's friendly towards people and has done well with female dogs we've paired him with, but he's more wary of males. Again, this is an in-tact strong-willed dog, so not totally surprising. Merrick's adoption comes with unlimited training from Von Dubinhaus for the duration of his life, so we definitely are looking for someone who will take advantage of that and set up, at the very least, socialization appointments so we can make sure he becomes a well-balanced dog. To note, we've also noticed he does tend to chase shadows a bit, another thing we can work on.
Overall, we are very fond of this animal and he has done quite well with us. We feel he has the potential to be an AWESOME dog, but we are going to be picky where he goes as he is an extremely powerful animal and needs solid leadership going forward to ensure he reaches his potential.
Please do not contact if you have the following:
- cats
- small dogs
- children under the age of 7
- live in an apartment or condo
- a non-fenced yard
If you feel you are an excellent candidate for Merrick and meet the requirements, please reach out and we can chat further!
