My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Jean is currently being fostered in Houston, her adoption will be out-of-state and there is, unfortunately, no opportunity to meet her prior to her adoption. Her adoption fee is $500, which covers her flight and a new kennel. Unfortunately, meeting Jean prior to her adoption will not be possible.**

Jean and her brother found themselves, as so many of our rescues do, running the streets of Houston with no family to care for them. As they were scavenging for food one morning, they inadvertently hit the jackpot and were eating from a dumpster outside of the office buildings of one of our amazing volunteers. While we didn’t really have a plan for them, we knew they would not survive on their own on the streets much longer as they would either be hit by a car, fall in to the wrong hands, or end up at a high kill shelter. While they weren’t excited for the first two, very necessary, scrubs in the tub, they love being house dogs versus street dogs and are such sweet little babies.

Our vet’s best guess is that Jean is a Lab / Australian Cattle Dog mix who is about 7-8 months old. She is currently about 35 pounds and we anticipate she will be a healthy 55 pounds once she is done growing. She is still in that odd leggy stage, but we think she will start filling out nicely very soon. She is working hard on her house manners and is doing very well on her potty and kennel training. Jean will make a great running or hiking buddy and her ideal family is one that will want her to be a part of all of their grand adventures (and also let her snuggle them while they watch TV)!

Jean is very social with other dogs and plays very nicely with her foster siblings, who range from a 10- week old puppy through a 50 pound German Shepherd. Despite being on the streets before she came to us, she has shown no signs of food aggression and happily shares toys with her foster buddies. She loves a good chew toy (definitely the lab in her!) and is learning how to play with fun toys like Jolly Balls and to chase the tennis ball. Jean would make a great addition to a family that already has other pets but would also be fine as a single lady!

Jean has come a very long way in a short time with us, but we want her forever family to know that she still has a bit of development to know that she is safe, loved, and will never ever be on the street again. She loves hanging out with her foster dad and has learned how to sit for a yummy treat. But she will still likely have an accident or two while she learns the ropes of her new home and is anxious on her leash. Jean is a super smart girl though, she will learn very quickly as long as her new family is patient and loving with her.

Jean has been fully vetted (vaccinated, dewormed, spayed, and microchipped), she is heartworm negative, and has no known health issues.

The first step in our adoption process is to fill out an application. This can be done through our website at www.reggiesfriends.org – if you hover over the “adoptables” tab, the link to the application will appear.

If you have any questions about Jean, please feel free to email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org
**Because the flights to transport dogs to their new families are so expensive, our adoption fee is firm and non-negotiable.**
