My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Ginger is currently being fostered in Houston, her adoption will be out-of-state and there is, unfortunately, no opportunity to meet her prior to her adoption. Her fee is $500, which covers her flight, a new kennel, and of course, she is fully vetted and healthy.**
Ginger came to us by way of a local shelter where she and her babies had been dumped by their “owners” after they failed to sell her babies on the side off the road. The shelter held on to the little family for 3 extra days hoping to find a rescue that would be able to take the entire family. We pulled on our amazing foster network and were able to make some magic happen for this little family. While the babies were great, Ginger was amazing! She was the most caring momma and wanted nothing more than to make sure her babies were safe.
Now, it is time for Ginger to be someone’s baby! Ginger is literally the sweetest and most loving dog any one could ever imagine. Despite being heavily bred and never really cared for well, she has nothing but affection and love for her family. Ginger is roughly 3 years old and we believe is a Rhodesian Ridgeback / Boxer mix. She has put on some nice weight after her puppies were weened and is currently a healthy 50 pounds. She is the most beautiful chestnut color with cute little white paws.
Ginger is a medium energy girl, she loves to play for a bit every day and go for a nice stroll, but her favorite thing to do is lie by the couch at her foster dad’s feet. Ginger would make an amazing addition to any family situation; Ginger would be amazing with kids that are respectful and gentle with pets. Her energy level is appropriate for an apartment or condo setting, but she would love a back yard to sun in as well. Ginger has been well socialized with other dogs of all sizes and is currently in a foster home with a 6 pound Chihuahua up to an 80-pound American Bulldog – and she loves them all! Ginger would also be fine with cats as she has not chased or tormented the cats in her foster home! Ginger would make a perfect addition to a family with other pets or would be fine as a solo pet.
Unfortunately, because Ginger’s previous family did not take very good care of her, she is heartworm positive. She has been started on a slow-kill heartworm protocol, which involves a regime of antibiotics and heartworm prevention medication. While there are other treatment protocols, this is the method that the rescue deems the least caustic to the dogs and we have had great success using it for our rescues with heartworm infections. The rescue will supply the medication and details regarding the protocol to help her adoptive family successfully treat her. She is not in any pain nor are the heartworm impeding her well-being.
Aside from this, Ginger is a happy and healthy girl. She has been fully vetted (vaccinations, spay, and microchip) and has no health issues that we know of.
The first step in our adoption process is to fill out an application. This can be done through our website at www.reggiesfriends.org – if you hover over the “adoptables” tab, the link to the application will appear.
If you have any questions about Ginger, please feel free to email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org
**Because the flights are so expensive to transport the dogs to their new families, our adoption fee is firm and non-negotiable.**
