Here's what the humans have to say about me:
**Murphy is currently being fostered in Houston, his adoption will be out-of-state and there is, unfortunately, no opportunity to meet him prior to his adoption. His fee is $500, which covers his flight, a new kennel, and of course, he is fully vetted and healthy.**
A local shelter that we work with emailed us with a sad photo of the most handsome little man named Murphy. He had been there for over a month, had gone through the shelter’s Dog Ambassador Program, where he participated in weekly basic training and socialization classes. But despite the shelter’s best efforts, Murphy was overlooked by families and was becoming depressed in the shelter environment. One look at his face and we knew we had to make space in our foster program for him!
Murphy is quite simply an awesome dog! He is very loving, but not needy, and wants nothing more than to wiggle his little body up next to his family and be loved. He is very well behaved in the house, so it is likely he was someone’s dog at some point and either got away from them or was abandoned. He knows some basic commands, he is a champion at ‘sit’ – and generally does it just for praise and affection, often ignoring the cookie reward!
The vet thinks that Murphy is a mix of a Manchester Terrier and some small Spaniel – whatever he is, he is adorable! He does have longer fur, but does not have an undercoat and does not appear to be a high shedder. Murphy is about 3 years old and is around 20 pounds – making him the perfect size for an apartment or condo situation. Murphy is a bit of a Houdini in the backyard, having found an escape route out of his fosters backyard twice in two days, so he should **never** be left unattended in a backyard setting. Part of us thinks that he may be looking for his former family because each time he has gotten out, he has come directly back when his foster called for him.
Murphy has been well socialized with other dogs of all sizes and his foster’s cats. He is very sweet and loves to romp and play with dogs his size. He is a little unsure of really big dogs, but he is confident and is not fear reactive – he just prefers his playmates a bit closer to his size. He has also been around small 12 week old pups and has been very loving and gentle with them. Murphy would be an amazing family dog, as his demeanor would make him a great companion to (respectful and gentle) children.
Murphy has been fully vetted (vaccinations, neuter, and microchip) and has no known health issues. He is ready to leave rescue and start his forever life with the perfect family!
The first step in our adoption process is to fill out an application. This can be done through our website at www.reggiesfriends.org – if you hover over the “adoptables” tab, the link to the application will appear.
If you have any questions about Murphy, please feel free to email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org
**Because the flights are so expensive to transport the dogs to their new families, our adoption fee is firm and non-negotiable.**
