Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Romeo, Romeo... wherefore art a home for our Romeo??? This big lovable lug arrived at the shelter shortly after Valentine's Day, very shy and badly in need of some grooming. He saw both the vet and the groomer, who gave him the leo cut, taking off all his clumpy fur so he can start from scratch with his grooming. That's why he looks so funny! But he doesn't care how he looks, he cares only for his volunteer friends, loves to be held by them, loves to hug them with his big paws, loves to tag along while we are moving about doing chores. He's a silent sidekick, waiting for us to take a moment to give him more love, enjoys being brushed a little, and then generally waits patiently until we're ready for some more Romeo love.
The problem is that he is very dominant -- he is aggressive towards the other cats and to the dogs we have tested him with. He's a puzzle, because he is so content when he is out of his cage all on his own, very happy to spend all his time with his volunteers, but he turns aggressive among other animals. So he really needs to be in a quiet home with no other pets, where he can be the boss and also be your only four-footed love.
Romeo tested positive for FIV, feline immunodeficiency virus, which is not highly contagious, and is not even easily transmitted -- not among neutered cats. FIV requires no special medications, and afflicted cats live perfectly normal, healthy, long lives. But all FIV+ cats should be indoor cats, to prevent the spread of the virus, and to minimize their exposure to other illnesses.
Romeo is estimated to be 5 years old, is box-trained, neutered, current on vaccinations, and tested negative for feline leukemia. Adoption fee for adult cats is $50 (cash or check only, please). For more information on Romeo, or an adoption application, email ClayvilleCritters@cox.net, call the shelter at (401) 647-7200, or visit the shelter during regular hours: Tue, Wed, Fri 7 to 11 a.m., Thursday 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
