My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Oscar and Nova are a sad story. They had a great partnership with a teenage girl, were showing and trail riding and having a fabulous life. The girl went off to college, and was killed in an automobile accident her first semester. Her family cared for the boys for several years longer, keeping their beloved daughter's beloved horses; but they realized that sitting in a pasture with little care and attention wasn't what was best for the boys. They visited CWER, were pleased with what they saw in how we care for our horses, and asked us to bring them here.

Stands to mount: B-. stands reasonably well, sometimes shifts away from the rider. Fusses if a short rein is held.

Walk: B. Has a nice smooth easy walk, still tossing his head and mildly annoyed at being told where to go, not directionally challenged, simply has his own opinions.

Trot: C. He has a reasonably balanced trot, and usually doesn't drop his inside shoulder in turns. He prefers to trot with no rein contact whatsoever, and continues to toss his head (2nd ride trotting) when asked to turn or steer.

Halt: D. Struggles against the bit when asked to halt. Have confirmed no dental or fit issues, and behavior is improving very rapidly, appears to be an old bad habit or possibly poor fitting tack in his past. Is improving quickly, but still struggles.

Dismount: A. Stands calmly as soon as the right foot comes out of the stirrup, relaxes to stand calmly to dismount.

Canter: not at this time.

Riding outside the indoor arena: not yet.
