NOTE: SCMR DOES NOT adopt to homes with children under the age of 10 years or homes with Electric Fences.
Gidget was rescued by children when they found her dodging cars in the middle of a 4-lane city street, and was brought to one of our foster moms. We tried finding her family by going door-to-door, contacting the local vets, posting notices, emailing other groups, and going by local grooming shops in the area; but, found out that she had been roaming for over a week and had actually been abandoned at an apartment complex when her family moved out without her. Many local people had tried to capture her over the course of that week, but she was obviously scared and not sure who to trust. However, she was able to trust a child who in return got her to safety.
Gidget is between 1 and 2 years old, weighs approximately 9 pounds, and has now been spayed and completely vetted. She has no known health problems. She loves playing with other dogs, and loves to snuggle her trusted humans. She will not easily go to strangers, but once formally introduced, she is very friendly and accepting. She obviously likes children, uses a doggy door when one is available and is paper-trained when she has stay indoors alone during the day. She enjoys toys, particularly the kind that squeak, and also likes to have something chewy to gnaw on.
Gidget is highly intelligent and quickly discovered that she could jump in a chair to reach the table in order to get human snacks. She will needs lots of toys and human interaction or playmates to entertain herself and prevent boredom. She is very loving and likes to be beside you on the couch or in bed when she lounges, but is not overly clingy and will entertain herself when you are busy with chores. She prefers to play with other dogs her size, but is not intimidated by larger ones either. She doesn't seem too concerned with cats in any way. Gidget just wants to have a permanent family that will not abandon her and that will give her the love, mental stimulation and companionship that she so richly deserves.
