Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Honey is approximately 3 years old and weighs 15 lbs. She is a calm, sweet girl. She is incredibly kind and just about as sweet as they come. She was found as a stray and ended up in a county shelter when SOMAD rescued her. She seems to have been part of a family in the past because she is well mannered and knows how to live in a human world.
Honey is reserved around people she doesn't know, but she is very gentle and has allowed strangers to handle her without any negative reaction. Once she gets to know you, she shows you why her name is Honey... because she's as dripping sweet as any dog could ever be. She enjoys sitting next to you, having her head on your chest or lap and soaking in all of the affection you have to give.
Honey is best suited for a quiet home due to her own quiet nature. It doesn't mean that she won't like to go out and meet new people or find a playmate. If there is an equally nice playmate for her, she will play with the best of them. She has recently found a playmate in a 6 lb foster pup and will play until they are worn out. She has been good with every dog she has met (on the submissive side to new dogs) and if a dog becomes aggressive with her, she tries to get away rather than stand and defend herself.
Honey was housetrained coming from the shelter and quickly realized the rules of the foster home. She has also learned that the crate is a good place to sleep quietly and eat her meals. While she understands that she must go in her crate at certain times, but doesn't like to be in the crate when she knows the family is home.
She rides well in a car, but can be nervous when going new places. She walks well on leash, but is just as happy to stay home if she has to. She may be an alert dog at times, but she is quiet and hasn't barked much at her foster home (she barks to get out of the crate and that's about it).
Honey's foster mom has fallen head over heels in love with her so she's going to be extra picky about who will be Honey's forever family. All dogs deserve the best home, but Honey deserves an extra best home!
Please email for an adoption application (Microsoft Word format).
Prior to adoptions, all dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated (age appropriate), heartworm tested, microchipped and are kept up to date on flea/tick and heartworm preventative.
Adoption fees are $300 for dogs up to 8 years of age and $200 for 8+ years.
SOMAD is a private, all volunteer, foster-home based rescue group. Please be patient as we answer your inquiries; we do our best to answer emails within a day, however volume and regular life schedules sometimes delay us.
