Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Boone is a smart and very handsome 18 months old male Black Great Dane.
He has a unique thin white line that runs from his chin all the way down to his white chest.
He loves to go for walks and to play ball and tug.
His most favorite thing to do is be with his humans. Boone is super sweet but needs a strong owner.
Training is a requirement for Boone.
It is important that his new owner has giant breed experience and be a good leader/alpha to Boone. It is also important that Boone have another Great Dane to play with.
He is working on crate training. He does not like it and will drool and cry inside of the crate. He will run to his crate during meal times with no issues. Post-meal, his crying will start. He has stayed in his crate for short periods and has broken out once.
Boone is house-broken and even paws at the door when he needs to go out.
He knows the following commands well: Sit, Stay, Down, Off, Leave it, Drop it, & Recall. This boy is super smart and has a great memory!
Boone is shy at first but will warm up with proper introductions with new people and dogs.
He is good with small and large dogs-again with slow and proper introductions.
He does bark at strangers and at the door as most dogs do. He would do well as an only dog or if he had a canine companion.
He does have separation anxiety and does not like to be alone for too long. His previous owner surrendered him because they did not have enough time to spend with him and he was left alone for long periods of time.
Due to something in his past, he is scared of tall men in work boots and is not a fan of hats.
Boone does best with a single female or a couple.
Boone does well with older kids but small children makes him nervous.
Boone does not like being confined in a crate and will escape one at all costs. He is trustworthy, however, to be left out free in the home when owners no one is home.
He does like to guard his food. This is a manageable behavior if an owner is diligent about feeding him separately and keeping uneaten food put away.
Boone is a typical 18 months old Great Dane, which means he is playful and lazy all rolled into one. He is very vocal and will “talk” to you and let you know exactly what he wants and when he’s not happy about something. His foster mom likens his behavior to that of a cross between a 2 year old & a teenager human. He is headstrong and can be stubborn and want what he wants when he wants it. He will need an experienced and firm owner that is not afraid to the Alpha of the family. Boone will try and take advantage of a pushover. However, he is VERY lovable, loyal, and eager to please.
