Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Taco is a 50 pound 1 year 4 month old neutered Australian Sheppard/Doberman mix with a high play drive. He wants your attention, and will do whatever it takes to get it, regardless of what you are doing, this motivation if channeled by the correct training can turn Taco into a service dog, an agility sports dog, or an obedience competitor. Taco is the type of dog that wants to be near you all the time. Taco wants to be a member of your family, he is a loving dog who will bathe you with kisses and smother you with affection. Taco does well with adults and older children preferably over 16 years of age who don’t mind a dog that plays hard, as sometimes Taco gets overly excited and will not let go off things in his mouth including people.
We are looking for a Foster home for Taco or better someone to adopt him, the boarding kennel is not the right place for a dog like Taco, he gets to exited, stressed and starved from attention and affection, he needs a foster. I kennel my dogs every weekend and bring 2 to 3 rescues to my home. Taco is of the doggies I bring to my house and he is a wonderful doggie in a home environment, easy to manage once he settles into a home routine despite is level of activity. Once Taco is in a stable quiet and secure home environment with parents that love him and give him the love, guidance and attention he so hardly seeks and craves, he will settle down, flourish and become the wonderful dog he can be, give him a chance.
Taco does well in the company of well behaved submissive dogs, specially playful young females, but they have to be totally non aggressive dogs because Taco is a bit of a bully when he meets a dog and sometimes that gets him in troubles, Taco should not be allowed to play with small dogs less than 25 pounds or children less than 16 years old, he is just to rough for them. Taco is a dog with a high play drive, loves to chase balls, play tug and running.
Taco is too smart to be permitted to misbehave, Taco, requires a firm, yet loving training and guidance. To be Taco’s foster or adopter you must be one step tougher and smarter than him. Don’t think that tough means harsh or abusive. Taco is very sensitive and will not deal well with rough treatment. Abusive treatment with Taco will result in a dog with a broken spirit and or worse, an aggressive temperament, I am sure he will answer physical abuse with aggression.
Because obedience training is a must for Taco, we sent Taco to obedience school at the Canine Academy Training Center in Leander Texas, he did very well, were told by his trainers that he is a very smart motivated fast learner, he walks well on leash, sits, lays down, stays, he is crate trained and of course house trained, but like with any learned training, training must be kept up. Taco was trained using positive reinforcement only, he is clicker savvy. Taco will be going to receive
additional training as he is not 100% reliable on his commands and to receive off-leash training, we would like Taco to be with a foster or adopted before he goes to training, or better that the foster or adopter chooses to attend the training with him.
Being young, Taco is full of energy and will do better having a doggie companion to burn energy with, being a high energy furry person Taco needs physical exercise as well as mental stimulation, he will do well with someone who likes to keep up his training, play, hike, run and then go home and snuggle.
Taco is up to date on all his vaccinations, he is heartworm negative and has been microchiped. If you like to foster him or would like to give him a Forever Home, call Miguel at 817-798-8416, email miguel.hughes@sbcglobal.net
