Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Jogging Buddy?
Are you looking for a jogging Buddy? Well I have the boy for you! Buddy is two years old, neutered, and black in color. He had a bit of a rough start his first two years as he was tied out in a back yard with little human contact or love but you can’t tell him that because he is a happy, outgoing, loving boy with A LOT of energy to spare! Buddy is currently jogging a mile and a half several times a week and it really cuts down on his energy level and helps him focus. An active owner is going to be a must for this boy.
Buddy is working on manners and basic commands, he walks well on a leash, knows sit, down and is trying really hard to grasp the concept of stay. Buddy wants so badly to please and he makes great improvements with every lesson. He is going to make a fantastic companion to someone who has the time and energy to keep him active and keep up with his training.
Buddy is crate trained and is doing well with potty training, although he is scared to death of going outside at night alone. We think that he must be afraid he will be left out there again! Poor guy!
Buddy would do best in a home with no small children, and probably better with just teenage children in the home. In typical Dane style he has no idea that there is a huge body behind his ears and in his enthusiasm for life regularly knocks into things and people.
Buddy is learning social skills with other dogs and he does well with his large breed sisters in his foster home, He has had problems in the past with intact male dogs but has since been neutered and has had some training so he has calmed down in that respect but he will not be placed in a home with other male dogs or small dogs. He would like to have a patient, sturdy, large breed (because he plays hard) sister to teach him the ropes and share your lap with. Buddy has shown great interest in cats in the past and while he is learning to ignore them in his foster home a home with no small animals or a home where he is not allowed free access to them.
Because he was left outside in his early days he has suffered from frostbite to his ears and tail and will always have some scarring/hair loss to his ears and tail. The tips of his ears are growing back white right now and I think it just adds tons of character to an already goofy guy.
Buddy has been temperament tested, had a check-up with our vet, is current on his vaccines and is microchipped. Because of his need for continued training and the fact that we will be requiring him to continue his education with a basic obedience class.
If you are interested in Buddy you must have an application on file with NWGDR. Due to the large volume of questions we receive about the dogs in our program we do not answer questions without an application on file. You can find the application at our website under the “contact us” tab.
