Here's what the humans have to say about me:
UPDATE: Thanks, everyone, for your interest in Kaya, but, after much soul searching, her foster parents have decided to adopt her as they don't feel she would adjust to another move (this would be her sixth in less than three years). Our fosters always have that option as they know our babies the best, but I apologize for the confusion caused by reposting her (we had a glitch and lost several postings, so I was reposting everyone I thought we had lost) without checking with her foster parents to see if she was available ~
Hi, I'm Kaya, and I am a sweet but shy AKC bull terrier.
My estimated birthday is Jul 05, and I weigh about 55 lbs. I am listed as medium sized, though, as I'm short and stocky and really not very big at all.
I've had a complicated life. I was bought from a reputable breeder by a wonderful family whose first child turned out to be VERY allergic to me, so they rehomed me with a friend in the hopes their daughter would outgrow her allergies. When they had a second child and the first was still allergic, though, they decided to find me a different forever home. The wonderful man that had been keeping me for them wanted to adopt me, but he was transferring out of country and couldn't take me with him, so my original family asked a friend in rescue to place me for them. I was sent out on a trial adoption and stayed out for quite some time, but I just couldn't seem to bond with my new owner, although I was very well behaved and never caused him any trouble. I'm doing fine in my foster home, but I'm still somewhat shy and reserved, and the only thing my foster parents can attribute it to was my being kidnapped from a dog park in my previous life and being missing for a couple of weeks -- no one knows what may have happened to me then :(
What we do know is I'm WONDERFUL around children and LOVE them, and that I live to run around and play fetch. I'm fine with other dogs but usually don't make an effort to play with them unless they are puppies -- I'm truly a little clown at heart.
I'm also good with strangers, but my foster parents haven't been able to figure out what kind of human parents I really need, so any adoption I might have would need to be a trial until we could see if I was able to bond with my new family. Also, any prospective adopters would need to have researched my breed and be willing to go to obedience classes with me to ensure we know how to communicate with each other -- my breed is not difficult, but we aren't for the inexperienced or novice dog parent.
My adoption fee is set in the same range as the bull terrier breed rescue clubs -- $300 -- so that I'm not less expensive than their fosters and thus more likely to get adopted than them, but the fee might be somewhat negotiable to the right family under the right circumstances. My foster family really just wants to fine me a home where I'll be happy and playful all the time :)
