Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Let's take a second here to talk about Winnie.
Winnie is a 4 year old, 40 lb boxer mix whose face is perpetually plastered with a quizzically adorable expression that seems to endlessly beg for a cookie.
Sweet face aside, it's damn hard not to give Winnie everything she asks for and then some, especially when it comes to food. Prior to becoming honorary big fluffies, Winnie and her brother Boone had spent their lives outside in a backyard, in a crate or tied to a tree, without access to food or water. Luckily for W & B, our groomer was looking at homes to purchase down in Tennessee and just happened to find these two sad souls starving to death at the way back of one of the properties she was viewing. Our groomer made a purchase that day, but it wasn't the house.
When Winnie and Boone arrived, they were literal skin and bones and truly not far from dying of starvation. Winnie was in especially bad shape - her breed mix virtually indistinguishable because she was simply a skeleton with a patchy coat of fur and giant amber eyes.
Boone recovered quickly and found his forever home. Now it's Winnie's turn. Winnie's coat is now soft and shiny, she's discovered the joys of playtime and toys and has regained all the weight she needed to and then some. As my grandmother used to say, she's now "well upholstered."
Winnie is fantastic with kids and cats and she gets along just fine with dogs her size or larger when properly introduced. In true boxer fashion, Winnie is a higher energy girl who loves to run, pounce, wrestle and play. She is responsive and intelligent - knows basic commands and walks well on the leash. Winnie has nice indoor manners and is house and crate trained, though given how much of her life she spent in a tiny kennel, we would really rather see her go to a home that will not crate her much, or at all. Winnie is content to nap in a gated off area during the day while her people work and is trustworthy enough to be given free range of the house at night.
Winnie loves to be outside and she loves to run graceful laps around the yard and around her older and wiser doggie foster sister. She loves to go hiking and she's a big fan of the snow. Winnie's ideal home is a spirited one filled with lots of love. This gal's resilient and affectionate little soul deserves to be cherished and nurtured until the end of her days.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please apply online, at http://www.bigfluffydogs.com/online-app.php. Our main website, www.bigfluffydogs.com has more information about us and the rescue process. NOTE TO EMAILERS FROM ADOPT-A-PET: WE DO NOT RESPOND TO EMAIL INQUIRIES WITHOUT AN APPLICATION. WE REGRET WE CANNOT RESPOND TO EVERY EMAIL, BUT UNLESS YOU FILL OUT AN APPLICATION, WE DO NOT KNOW YOU EXIST. All known information about an individual dog is provided in it's listing. We do our best to provide accurate information, but adopters must understand that each home is different and the dog may behave differently in a new home. Dogs are creatures of their environment and you help make the dog what it will be. Homes considering adopting a puppy must be prepared for:1.) Flexible schedules for potty training. Puppies can only "hold it" for one hour per month of age (ex. a 4 month old puppy can only go 4 hours without a potty break).2.) Crate training until the puppy is at least one year old, to prevent chewing on inappropriate things when you can't supervise.3.) Socialization: The more positive and varying experiences as a puppy the better, both in and out of your home.4.) Puppy behavior and life stages are equivalent to a human toddler. It takes at least a full year to have a calmer, well adjusted dog. Patience is required and when your dog's behavior is a positive experience for you and those around you, your patience will be rewarded tenfold, for years to come. Please do not consider adopting a puppy if you have not thoroughly thought through the pros and cons of having one. So many people end up returning them after 3-5 months because they didn't realize the amount of work involved in raising a puppy.Patience, appropriate toys, socialization, and obedience training are all musts. All are time consuming, and can be expensive. All Dogs Require:Supervision with children and obedience training. Adopters that want to have good dogs must be prepared to put the time and effort into training a dog. Any dog requires work and effort, but a well trained, well socialized dog is more than worth the effort put in to get them there.
