My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Updated 2-16-2016 Murphy is 5 years old (estimated) and weighs 11 pounds. He is most likely a Shihtzu/Terrier mix and is being fostered in Cordova Tennessee.

Hello every Pawdy! It’s me Murphy here with a Pup-Date! I have so much to tell you. You may remember that I came into rescue in bad shape. I was rescued from a hoarding case where I lived with almost 40 other dogs in really bad conditions. If you would like to see footage from my rescue you can watch it here https://www.facebook.com/AnimalRescueCorps/videos/1140049302695057/. Well, my life has taken a HUGE TURN for the PAWS-a-TIVE since being rescued!

I am having an AMAZING time here with my foster Mom and Dad. They treat me SO GOOD! I get yummy nutritious food, warm soft beds, and lots of love and attention. I also love my fur-siblings in my foster home. We play together and get along great. I am happy to report that I am now past my pesky skin infection and the Dogtor says in a few months my hair will be full and beautiful! I have also finished my heartworm treatment. I am going to get my toofies cleaned and have something called a “neuter” on Feb. 22nd. Not sure what all that means but my foster parents have it all under control so I trust them to take great care of me!

Guess What? I am now COMPLETELY housetrained and have not had one single accident in the house in a LONG TIME! Foster Mom says I am such a smart boy and I got that down QUICK! I have also learned how to leash walk too.

I am the SWEETEST BOY EVER and a TOTAL Cuddle-BUG! I love all people and other dogs too. I guess you could say I am just about PERFECT! And the best news of all is that very soon, in a couple of weeks after all my care is finished I will be ready to find my perfect Forever Home! I’m so excited to find my new humans I can hardly stand it!

My wish list for my new home is one where I will be loved for the rest of my life. I would do great in a home with other pets, or I would also be happy be someone’s “one and only boy.” I love to cuddle and get lots of attention. I would be okay with older children too. If you think you might be my perfect person, then please apply to adopt me today!

Murphy is 5 years old (estimated) and weighs 11 pounds. He is mostly likely a Shihtzu/Terrier mix being fostered in Cordova Tennessee.

Murphy comes to United Yorkie Rescue from our amazing partners at Animal Rescue Corps (ARC). Murphy was part of Operation Resolution; a large abandonment/hoarding and cruelty case in Hardin County TN. He was living in a building with many other abandoned animals. The flooring was completed decomposed from urine and feces and the ammonia gas levels were so high that the first responders had to wear gas masks and hazardous materials gear in order to remove Murphy and the other animals from the scene. You can learn more about this case and see footage of Murphy and his sibling Justice by viewing the ARC footage https://www.facebook.com/AnimalRescueCorps/videos/1140049302695057/

Over the next few days Murphy was given nutritious food, a safe place to lay, medical evaluation and medical care. At this point, ARC reaches out to its valued shelter partners to finish the work that they begin. UYR will now take over Murphy’s care by providing a more permanent foster home, additional medical care and eventually a new forever home. UYR gladly stepped up for Murphy and his brother Justice who were very sick and in fact were the first two dogs to leave the ARC shelter so that they could immediately begin to receive the care that they need.

It is likely that Murphy has lived in severe conditions most of his life…..we can’t know for sure. We can say that his skin in in terrible condition from being literally eaten alive by fleas and sarcoptic mange. He is also malnourished and dehydrated, has ear infections, and is positive for heart worms. If there is any “good news” for Murphy it is that his heart worm disease is in very early stages. He has been found to have no adult size heartworms; only the micro-fillaria or baby sized ones that are easily killed. We are so grateful to have found them early and he will be treated for them with oral medication and not the lengthy and unpleasant 4-month long protocol that dogs with adult heart worms must undergo. He has large open sores over all of his body, his feet are swollen and raw, his lymph nodes are swollen, his skin is thick and leathery and from the outside he is in very rough shape. However, Murphy saw the Veterinarian today (1/16/2016) and he is in much better condition on the inside than he appears on the outside. His teeth are in good shape, his physical exam was overall quite normal given the way he looks and he is deemed ready to be neutered and micro-chipped next week. He has been given medicated shampoo and medicine for his skin issues and in a couple of weeks there is a very good chance that Murphy can be adopted. In the meantime he is receiving LOADS of love, belly rubs, treats and attention from his foster Mom and Dad as well as his foster siblings.

Murphy is OVER THE MOON SWEET. He wags his tail, gives kisses and plays like any other little boy dog. He is not housebroken and not leash trained as he has never been “asked” to do those things. He has only been in his foster home for one day, but so far he is okay with the other dogs the home. We are just getting to know Murphy so please stay tuned for updates in the coming days. If you want additional email about Murphy please email his foster Mom at memphisyorkie@outlook.com
