Here's what the humans have to say about me:
UPDATE:
Afric was adopted but we took her back after we discovered she was being abused. She has now lost one eye but is still a gentle, loving dog. She has no animosity toward people who abused her.
Update December 2008
Hello, I am house/dog sitting for Afric's foster mom and I just wanted to add a few things to Afric's page. After getting to meet Afric and living with her for the last few days, I have to say she is a great dog. In fact, she is really the perfect dog!
Afric is very loving and likes to be petted and loved on. She is not pushy about getting attention and will just come and sit near you. When you are done petting her and tell her "ok, go lay down" she will trot off to lay down and relax. Afric is crate trained to a 'T'; she goes into her crate happily and doesn't make a peep while in her crate. Afric appriciates a soft doggie bed and would probally very willingly share your bed if you allowed her. She comes when called the majority of the time.
Afric is also a great watchdog. She lets you know if she hears something outside, but is not 'jumpy' about it. She quiets down quickly when you tell her "It's ok".
She likes to hang out outside and run around with her foster sisters. Afric's favorite thing is to just chill in the house with her person. She gets along well with other dogs, but would like being an only dog also....more attention for Afric :-) I haven't noticed her missing eye bothering her at all, and it doesn't seem to hinder her in anything she does. She gets along with the resident cat, and pretty much ignores him.
Watching her run around outside you would not know she is eight years old! Inside she is very calm and quiet. If you have ever considered adopting a wiser, older dog, and you are looking for a great and devoted companion, Afric is your girl!
Afric is an 8 year young BC mix. She is about 45 pounds and working on dropping a few unwanted pounds. Afric is crate trained and comes with great house manners. Given a chance she does like to snuggle with her person on the sofa or in a chair. Her recall is good and she gets along with her 2 foster sisters.
Afric has been with her foster mom for a short time. She bonds quickly and takes her job as a watch dog very seriously. If she hears outside noises she does not hesitate to notify her person, but will calm down as soon as she is told everything is alright. Over all she is a very gentle lady who wants nothing more than to be loved and give back in return. She makes a wonderful companion. She loves her Nylabone. Afric considers the perfect evening to be with her Nylabone, fire in the fireplace, and her person beside her. She would do best in a house with no small children. We were told that she did not do well with men, however she has shown no problems with men while in rescue.
She is free of any health issues and gets along fine with her limited sight. It is best to approach her on her good side or at least let her know that you are present.
Afric would be a wonderful companion in a single person home, or any other quiet environment. If you have ever though of adopting an older wiser dog, don’t pass up Afric.
