My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Be sure to check out Bandit's blog!

Bandit was originally found abandoned in front of a vet's office with a sign over his neck reading "Need a Good Home." He had a broken femur bone and was turned in to the Martinez Animal Shelter. I happened to be there when he was being surrendered, and he was so frightened, so overwhelmed that a chord was struck and I promised myself to do what I could to help him.

A week later, after his stray hold at the shelter was over, I brought him home with me.

Bandit is a wonderful dog and no longer appears frightened. Approximately 9 months old and currently 45 lbs. While it is still early days, so far he is calm, friendly to everyone, and sociable. He seems good on leash, is great in the car, and appears to have had some housetraining. Bandit has bonded very quickly to me and follows me around everywhere.

Bandit is great with other dogs. He is young and playful but never hyper. He is still a puppy and likes to chew a bit so appropriate chew toys should always be provided.

Bandit is getting surgery on his leg on July 17. For 2 weeks after that, he will need to be strictly confined, with only leashed excursions outside for potty breaks. For 6 weeks after that, he can go on very short leashed walks--he must be on leash at all times outside during this period. There will be a permanent plate attached to his bone, and it is expected he will make a complete recovery.

It is guessed that Bandit is a mix of german shepherd and husky, 2 highly intelligent breeds. It is important that his family provide leadership to him so he understands what is expected of him. After he is fully recovered from his surgery, Bandit would excel in a training class. He is eager to please and to follow direction. He's also one of the sweetest boys you'll ever meet.

If you are interested in adopting Bandit, please email your completed Adoption Application. BANDIT IS BEING FOSTERED IN ANTIOCH. We do request a $250 tax-deductible donation to help cover a portion of each dog's medical and transport expenses. Bandit will be neutered, current on shots, and flea & tick preventative, and microchipped prior to adoption. A homecheck will also be required because we do want to be sure that each dog goes to an environment suited to them.

Bandit is a very lovable dog. Like his name, he will steal your heart in no time flat.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

Bandit's surgery and follow-up care costs over $4,000. Our rescue is very small and an amount like this is staggering. Please consider making a small tax-deductible contribution to help us with this cost so that we may continue our efforts to help dogs with special needs just like Bandit. No amount is too small and every dollar will make a difference.

Another way to support our efforts is by purchasing from our eBay Store. We have bully sticks and other natural dog treats, pharmaceutical-grade glucosamine supplements, microchips, and more up for sale. Not only will you get a good deal, you will be helping a good cause.
