Like many of the dogs who come through the doors of Devoted Barn, Willow had a pretty rough start. A stray that made her way to a shelter, Willow spent 3 weeks coward in the back of her kennel. Loud noises and sudden movements left her unable to function like a “normal” dog. Willow was transferred to The Devoted Barn when she could no longer go any further in the shelter’s program and was set to be euthanized.
Having now lived in a foster home for nearly 6 months, Willow has made huge strides. This sweet girl is now a 1.5 years. She is a Pit Bull mix, we think maybe some Husky since she is talker from time to time. Gets along great with dogs and cats, but cannot live with small critters.
Willow would prefer a home with older children, since she has never lived with small children and lots of activity startles her. Her ideal home would be with a family willing to give her lots of time to adjust, take her on lots of walks, play in a fenced in yard and give her the love and attention she deserves. Willow loves to play outside and is still learning how to play with toys. We have begun working on leash training, since Willow does like to pull. She is completely potty trained and has never had an accident since being in her foster home. Car rides can be a little intense for her, but she handles them like a trooper (even though we tend to only travel with her when necessary.) Originally Willow was crate trained, but hasn’t had the need for one in months. Lately she has started to get a little sneaky and likes to shred paper she finds and will eat tennis balls if left alone with them (no toys without adult supervision.)
Due to Willow’s fearful behavior, she is currently on two anti-anxiety medications that she will most likely be on for the rest of her life. Any potential adopter needs to know this is an additional $15-$30 monthly cost.
