This dog's fosterhome is located in: ****Mastic Beach, New York**** Can you say hello to Miss Dixie? Dixie is a tiny little girl, about 10 pounds. We know someone used to love her, because she was spayed, housebroken and kept on heartworm preventive. Then how in the world was she dumped at a lakeside park and how did she end up at a rural shelter on death row? We sure can't explain it, but she's safe now, in a ResQ foster home. Dixie was found abandoned at the park, terrified and with an injured foot. Dixie loves attention, and just melts in your lap when you pick her up. But she is still a bit timid, and will run and hide if you chase her. It's best to just sit down and call her. She'll come to you, with her whole body wagging in excitement. Dixie is estimated to be about 3 or 4 years old. She is housebroken, and depends on you to let her outside or use a doggie door. She is quiet and docile, and seems to love everyone. But people walking upright towards her still frightens her, for now. We think she would do okay in a home with older children, but fast-moving toddlers would probably scare her. Whoever adopts her will need to give her a week or so to adjust to new surroundings, because she's been through a lot in her short life. Her rear foot was injured while she was a stray, and two of the toes were broken and healed crooked, but that doesn't slow her down one bit. She uses her foot just fine!
