Here's what the humans have to say about me:
*Gumbo is currently living in a wonderful foster home in Houston and is dreaming of finding his very own family locally or out-of-town.*
Gumbo is a darling, solid white Chihuahua mix and just about 1 year old. His hazel eyes matched with his white coat really make him stick out in a crowd in a good way. He’s only 12 pounds and he’s just about as big as he’s going to get. Everyone loves Gumbo and this guy is no exception!
He is a cuddly and super affectionate little guy. He’d be a great lap dog because he adores people. He’s little bit shy at first when meeting new people, but it’s a quick turnaround and this pup is your best buddy. The fact that he can befriend everyone after a short warm up period actually surprised us because he was turned into the high kill shelter by his very own people with his collar and tags on. We thought he would be timid and bitter towards people lifelong, but he’s proven us wrong in a big way. He’s amazingly sweet and we think that his initial shyness will even fade over time as he gains confidence and structure in his new family.
Gumbo is small, but he is a quick little fella. Although he’s an amazing lap dog, he has plenty of energy to run about the yard and have fun with his other furry buddies. He gets along great with all of the smaller dogs that he knows, but is slightly intimidated by the larger dogs he’s met. He does fine with them if he is introduced to them in a slower way and doesn’t feel like they will pick him up and take him away. Gumbo lives in a foster home with 2 cats and they all tolerate each other, however they aren’t best buddies. His foster mom is working on their relationship and trying to help them all acclimate to one another.
Gumbo is potty trained, crate trained and working on his leash skills. He wears a halter while he is on leash and although at first it didn’t seem he’d ever been on a leash, he’s doing rather well now. He is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative. His foster mom describes him as “a doll of a dog”.
He has had an owner in his past, but they abandoned him and we want to find Gumbo a new family that will commit to loving him for his entire life…he deserves it! He is available for local or out-of-town adoption. His adoption fee is $300. He is available and ready to meet his real family now. If you would like a side of Gumbo in your life every day, please fill out an adoption application on our website, www.reggiesfriends.org under the Adoptables tab and if you have any questions about our sweet fella, email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org.
