Here's what the humans have to say about me:
*Smiley is currently living in Houston with his amazing foster mom. He is available for local or out-of-town adoption into an active, loving family.*
Smiley got his name for a very obvious reason...he has a beautiful and constant smile that we all adore. We aren’t sure how or why this amazing dog landed at a shelter, but his personality is far too wonderful and he loves too much to have been put to sleep due to overcrowding there. He has been appreciative, grateful and perfect since the day he was rescued. We are pretty certain that he knew that his life was saved that day and we knew we could help make his future happy.
Smiley is a gorgeous brindle and white, male, American Staffordshire Terrier. He’s just over 1 year old and 50 pounds full grown. Smiley is completely healthy, neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated and more than ready to find his very own family. His foster family loves him beyond words, but they know to help others in need, they must let this sweet foster pup find his own people. Whoever adopts our Smiley will have many years of added joy and happiness to their lives, not to mention….lots of smiles and exercise.
Smiley is fully potty trained inside the house and crate trained as well. He was such a seamless foster dog to add to the family and he already knows to go to his kennel when they point to it and tell him Smiley Home. He sleeps in his crate and also stays in it while his foster is away from the house. The current house rule is that the pups aren’t allowed on the couch, but Smiley’s been caught a few times sweetly napping on the sofa and sometimes…we just let the rules slide a little. Smiley has graduated from a Basic Obedience class, so he has a nice foundation already. In his class, he learned to ride well in the backseat of the car, walk nicely on his leash, to sit and down. His cutest trick is that he can shake hands with both the left and right paw. He also knows his name and will come when called. He’s picked up so much knowledge in such a short period of time, that we are certain his new owner can continue training and he will continue learning.
Our sweet boy is great with older kids, but since he is quite exuberant sometimes, we feel that teenage kids would be the best fit for him. Smiley lives with several other dogs in his foster home and he plays well with them, although he is the most active of the bunch. He’s very well socialized and seems to get on well with all of the dogs he’s met thus far. Smiley loves to play in the backyard at his foster home and will often chase the squirrels that visit the yard and seems very interested in the game of chase, so he might not be the best pup in a house with cats. He’s impressed us quite a bit because he also lives with two Mallard ducks that he shares the yard with and doesn’t bother in the least. He’s a very playful boy, but a lover nonetheless!
This guy seems to know that he’s in good hands and his happy-go-lucky personality shines constantly. He has a very athletic build and likes to use it for lots of play and exercise. He loves to take long leashed walks and could be an excellent jogging partner with a little practice and build up. He really loves to play fetch with his tennis ball and will continue returning the ball to you until you’ve had enough of throwing it. He obviously enjoys this time with his person and is eager to please by bringing the ball back. The best reward that you can give Smiley for being a good boy is a scratch under the neck or a belly rub. He just loves those and it’s almost better than his blue teddy bear that he tosses around for himself. When he’s with his bear…he’s like a puppy in paradise and it’s the cutest thing we’ve ever seen. He’s a young guy and loves to be out and about and snuggle afterwards, but he definitely needs his daily exercise to remain a happy, stable, well-behave pup. He loves to take a long indoor nap after a fun-filled afternoon too, but he is a very active young man.
The ideal family for Smiley would be a very active, adventurous family with or without older kids and even another dog or two as his companions. Smiley is not a couch potato; he is physically fit, young, adventurous and affectionate. He would love a family that has similar characteristics so that he can mesh as if he’s been there his whole life. He is available for adoption and we are happy to help this amazing dog transition into his new, forever life. His adoption fee is $300. We would love to answer any questions you may have about him and you can email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org. If you feel that this amazing brindle boy is the next member of your family, the application can be located on our website, www.reggiesfriends.org, under the Adoptables tab.
