Here's what the humans have to say about me:
"Hello my name is Rodney. Things have not gone so well for me. I started out ok ...as a hopeful golden retriever mix pup. I ended up in a high kill shelter far away from home. There were so many dogs there. Some of them were sick, some of them were mean, and all of us were scared to death. When they fed us it was every dog for himself. I was in a run with a chowchow and 2 rotweilers. That should tell you that I was low dog on the totem pole. I was afraid of all of them. They bit me and growled at me and so I spent 2 weeks hiding under the bench. I ate the scraps of food that were left on the dirty floor with all the poop. I got worms from that. My coat was dirty. I thought "no body is going to ever want me like this." I was so depressed I didn't even try to come out when a lady came to rescue me. They had to drag me out from under the bench. I shook so hard I peed. Not a good first impression but she didn't seem to care. I went in a van with lots of dogs in crates and was driven 4 hours to my foster home. The lady there had 2 dogs that look like me only fatter and cleaner. I got a bath and some food and after a while I started feeling better about things. "
Well compared to the frightened neurotic dog that he once was, Rodney has filled out in size, personality, and behavior. He is now a georgeous big boned golden shephard retriever, solid and gleaming. He carries his tail high and his ears erect, and walks around like he is the king. No more belly crawling and flinching for him. When he is totally relaxed his ears flap over like a retrievers and when he is on the alert his ears stand up like a shephard. Rodney is a vocal dog, not that he is a barker but that he is a vocalizer who has specific sounds for specific needs....one to let you know his water bowl is empty, one to let you know he wants to go out, one to let you know he wants you to know the cat is in his way. If he wants you to play he will bring you his toys until you acknowledge him by tossing them to him. He is still a very needy dog. His behavior is excellent and he is housebroken totally, but he does have seperation anxiety and cannot be left alone loose in the house. when we are not home he is told "go in your crate" and he does. He has some toys and bones in there. If he is left alone you will come home to toilet paper all over, socks chewed up and if you leave a loaf of bread on the kitchen counter it will be all gone! For this reason Rodney needs to go to a home that has someone home most of the time, where he would be crated for short periods while grocery shopping or taking kids to school. Rodney is great with other dogs, is afraid of cats but will not hurt them, loves kids but might be to rough for a toddler because of his size. Rodney is trained to go outside and wears an electric collar which keeps him on the property. He is trained to walk on a leash. He sleeps in his crate at night, but takes naps with us in bed during the afternoons.
He is neutered, heartworm free and on preventative, and is UTD on all shots. Rodney is a young dog, under a year and so he has a lifetime of love and companionship to give. He is not and will never be a tied to a doghouse outside. He is a family dog and not a lawn ornament. He has had a rough start in life having ben dumped starving at a kill shelter. He has a scar that is barely visible running down his forhead between his eyes from an old injury, but it no longer detracts from his fine good looks. He deserves the very best of homes. If you think you can be the one to give it to him please contact us Adoption fee (95) application, contract, and home visit. Will require an inside home and 1 of 2 things : people who are home a lot, OR people with another compatible dog.
