Casper is a 1 1/2 year old dogo/bully mix around 56 pounds, with a little weight to put on. This boy is a showstopper ready to take your breath away and steal your heart. Casper is a gorgeous mix of smarts, cuddles, and fun. While exuberant outdoors, he is quiet and calm indoors and yearns to be near you. A quick study, he is excelling in training class and is the clear favorite in and out of the jail. This boy was a fun loving dog ’s dog in the shelter, but shocked us with his serene, almost cerebral presence in the jail with his new best buddy, Roderick. Casper is very accepting of other dogs and possibly cats and would love to bond with older children. Come see why this boy is one of the most special we’ve ever had and take him home before our Director does!
Casper is available for adoption immediately and will be able to go to his forever home after graduation. We think that Casper is going to be a favorite. He already is with our Director and Adoption's Team Leader!
Casper is part of the Canine CellMates program at Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, GA that pairs inmates up with urgent dogs from the Fulton County Animal Shelter. Dogs must pass a temperament test and then go through a 10 week training course similar to the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification. The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program, established in 1989, is an American Kennel Club program to promote responsible dog ownership and to encourage the training of well-mannered dogs. The evaluation consists of ten objectives. All items must be completed satisfactorily or the team fails. Test items include: Accepting a friendly stranger. Sitting politely for petting. Allowing basic grooming procedures. Walking on a loose lead. Walking through a crowd. Sitting and lying down on command and staying in place. Coming when called. Reacting appropriately to another dog. Reacting appropriately to distractions. Calmly enduring supervised separation from the owner.
