Here's what the humans have to say about me:
*Deacon currently lives in Houston at a boarding and training facility and he is available for local or out-of-town adoption.*
This is Deacon and he’s been waiting for that one special person for far too long. He’s a perfect pup, so we are perplexed as to why he hasn’t been scooped up yet, but we know that good things come to those who wait, so Deacon’s soon to have THE BEST family out there!
Deacon is an American Staffordshire Terrier/Jack Russell Terrier mix and at just 35 pounds at his adult weight. He’s so cute, small and a pocket pooch! He’s 2 years old, so he is beyond the puppy years, but still has a lifetime of good living to do with his new family. His trainer describes him as boisterous and funny and says that he has lots of personality and he’s not afraid to share it.
Deacon is a very spunky pup and loyal as the day is long to his humans. He’s silly and entertaining and seems to do whatever it takes to make his people keep smiling. Deacon is up for any and all activities with his human friends. He loves to run, play hard and get lots of attention and love. He would be an excellent running companion, hiking buddy or even a day in front of the TV cheering on your favorite team. He is an energetic boy, has a very outgoing personality and he’s super social with all people. He would love children in his life, if they don’t mind throwing the ball for him and having a constant companion. He returns the ball about 50% of the time, but he returns himself to his person 100% of the time. Deacon loves to snuggle, cuddle, get belly rubs, sit in his people’s laps and be petted, but it is generally brief and then he is off to play again.
This amazing pup is great with other dogs, but prefers a playful, well-behaved furry friend. He’s not at all fond of overly dominant, in-your-face types of dogs. Introductions are important for our sweet boy, but once he’s comfortable with new furry friends, he’s extremely happy and playful. He can occasionally get a little possessive with toys and snacks when other dogs are around, but hasn’t ever had an incident with any others. Deacon is very interested in birds, cats, lizards, frogs and all little critters he’s met and he has an inquisitive personality therefore should be carefully introduced to any new little friends in his life.
Deacon does so many cute things, but the most noteworthy things are that he jumps while he runs, he excitedly charges up to everything but stops just as he gets to it and he sleeps hard every night after a fun and exciting day of play. He rides very well in the car and overall is just a very well-rounded pup. He’s a gentleman inside the house and will impress a new family almost immediately. Once he is well bonded to his new family members, he would be an excellent dog park visitor.
The ideal, perfect family for Deacon is a fun-loving, active family with kids and a dog (he prefers females) that is medium to large in size, although that can vary greatly as long as his new family will love and protect him all of his days. He’s a bright and intelligent pup with a touch of mischievousness and curiosity. He is very trainable and highly responsive and just ready for his new adventures, new challenges and more.
He has recently completed a formal training program and has learned how to sit, stay, come and walk nicely on and off leash! He will get inside of his kennel on command, but naturally he loves to be out with his people or roaming the house if alone. He doesn’t have accidents in the house, doesn’t chew on things and never digs. He walks perfectly on his leash, comes to a SIT every time you stop walking, can SIT and STAY for periods of time, comes when he is called to DEACON HERE and he does not jump up on people. He is perfectly house broken, never an accident! He sleeps in his kennel at night and is perfectly fine with that arrangement, although most likely not necessary long after he settles into his new home.
Deacon is an easy maintenance dog due to that he is healthy, neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. He eats well (one of his favorite parts of the day), works hard, plays hard and is in great shape, so he’s ready to start his new life. Deacon is ready to find a family to love. He’s far too perfect to sit and wait another moment, so please email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org if you have any questions or feel this guy belongs in your family. To fill out the adoption application, please visit our website, www.reggiesfriends.org, under the Adoptables tab. His adoption fee is $300.
