Here's what the humans have to say about me:
*Jake is currently being fostered by a family in Houston, Texas and is available for local or out-of-town adoption.*
Jake is a big, handsome boy and he is looking forward to joining a family and adding ton of joy to each day. He is a black Labrador/Great Dane mix, weighing in at 85 pounds, measures 34 inches from the floor to the top of his head and is estimated at 3-4 years old. Despite his size, he is as gentle as they come! One of our volunteers found this amazing guy roaming the streets just outside of Houston, looking for food and shelter. Jake is the sweetest, calmest and most loyal companion you’ll ever have, so to find him in this situation was shocking. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to help him find his very own family soon.
He’s a very mellow, relaxed and loving dog, but also playful and energetic as he gets more comfortable in his new foster family. The cutest thing about Jake is that he seems to smile at his fosters to show his appreciation for his new life. His favorite thing so far is that he likes to be near his people and get scratched on the neck and head. He is super affectionate and loves all of this new found attention from his foster family. He likes to play with toys that make sounds and it keeps him entertained. He greatly benefits from daily walks and also uses that time to look out for squirrels during that time too.
He’s a happy dog that needs some encouragement to climb the stairs but overall he’s got a confident demeanor. His foster allows him to have free roam of the house during the day while he’s away at work because he is well behaved and never makes a mess. He’s a smart guy, having learned sit, down, shake and wait in just a few weeks. He also very quickly learned that when he lays on his back, he gets a belly rub, which he really loves. Jake has also proven to be an excellent car passenger, so going to the park, taking trips or just running errands would be great so he can spend more time with his people.
When Jake first joined his foster family, he was a bit restless at night, but he’s settled in now and we expect that he might take a little time to adjust to his new home too, but we guarantee he will. He currently sleeps in his own doggy bed at the foot of his foster’s bed and he sleeps soundly…although he’s shown interest in jumping in with his people, he’s simply a bit too big to keep everyone comfortable in one bed.
He enjoys interacting with other dogs but can also play very well on his own. He’s great with other dogs and with young children and although he doesn’t live with any kids now, he gets to spend afternoons with relatives and their toddler.
We know that he sounds perfect, but he is also working on a few training things too, which is normal for having been a stray in his not so distant past. He is still learning his leash skills as he tugs his person when he sees other dogs or squirrels. He likes to chase squirrels, cats and bugs. Due to his size, he does need a human that is able to train with him and control him on leash. He also is very much a Lab in the sense that he drools a bit, but only after drinking from his water dish. Those of you that know Labs, know this just comes with all of their awesomeness and have an absorbent rug under the bowl. Jake is fully potty trained and will get inside of a kennel, but he prefers to be free to lounge.
Jake is a great dog, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and healthy. He’s ready to join a family that will love him to pieces and allow him to be a part of all of the fun. His adoption fee is $300. He is currently living in Houston and would love to live in an area that loves big, happy dogs. If this gentle giant sounds like your next family member, please fill out the adoption application at www.reggiesfriends.org, under the Adoptables tab or email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org if you have additional questions.
