Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Waffles has had a very rough start to life. She was found, along with her sisters and brothers, under an abandoned porch by a Good Samaritan. One of her sisters was already deceased but the rest of the puppies were brought to CARES for treatment. Waffles was treated for sarcoptic mange and worms and recovered quickly. Once healthy, she had to undergo surgery to have a Histocytomia (benign tumor) removed from her shoulder. Once old enough, she underwent spay surgery and the remaining vaccinations and treatments necessary for adoption. At the same time, Waffles had been showing some signs of lameness in her rear and front legs so she was put through testing to determine the source. The vets determined that she had Panosteitis - a painful inflammation of the long bones commonly referred to as growing pains (Affected dogs often have recurrent episodes until they reach 2 years of age, at which time it will spontaneously resolve). The vet recommended pain meds during times of flare up and excessive pain. Unfortunately about the same time we were coping with this news through testing and ultrasound, we discovered Waffles to have Polycystic Kidney Disease! PKD is a slowly progressive, inherited, irreversible kidney disease that can result in renal failure. This disorder is often present at birth. Multiple small cysts slowly grow in size, causing the kidney to enlarge dramatically. The cysts replace the normal kidney tissue, while kidney function continuously declines. PKD often progresses to cause clinical signs of kidney failure. The only clinical signs that Waffles exhibits at the moment is increased thirst and subsequent urination...which causes her to have to urinate so frequently that it is impossible for her to hold it so she is unable to be house trained (she does #2 outside though). We have been using piddle pads and she stays outside with us all day as we work which makes it easy for her to go as she needs to. Despite all this...Waffles is an absolute angel of a dog!! She is beautiful and SOOO sweet! She is about the sweetest puppy we have ever had! Maybe it's because of all her hands on care through her medical issues but she is truly a gift from God! We are unwilling to give up on Waffles despite all her set backs in life. We are more than willing to continue whatever treatments this sweet girl needs to make her comfortable. However, we are posting her here in case there really is an angel out there just for her - someone who could care for Waffles and give her that FURever home she truly deserves! If you are Waffles Angel, please contact info.caresga@gmail.com for an adoption application. If you cannot adopt Waffles but want to help with her continued medical care, you can donate via Paypal by using the e-mail address info.caresga@gmail.com or directly to the vet: Culbreth, Carr, Watson Animal Clinic 706-234-9243 tell them it's for Waffles on the CARES rescue account. Apart from the medical issues, Waffles is sweet, under 40 lbs and looks just like a small black lab (although DNA confirmed her to a Aussie/bulldog/staffie/mix). She knows sit and will raise her little paw for treats. Waffles is housebroken for #2 but since she has no control over her kidneys, she urinates a minimum of every 30 minutes...so she is as house broken as possible given her medical condition. If you would like to meet this sweet girl e-mail info.caresga@gmail.com
Adoption fees for puppies are $250, adults dogs are $225 and senior dogs are $125. This includes each animal being current on age appropriate vaccinations including DHPPL, bordetella and rabies, de-wormed for any internal parasites (round worms, hook worms, tape worms and whipworms), tested heart-worm negative (if positive, they are treated), tested negative for tick borne diseases, spayed/neutered, implanted with a mini micro-chip and have been examined by a veterinarian to certify that they are healthy. All animals are also on a monthly regime of flea and heartworm medication. Lifetime registration for the micro-chip as well as 30 days of free pet insurance is also included in each adoption fee. In addition, each adopter will go home with a fitted collar, tags, a bag of dog food the pet has been on, Forti-Flora, and an adoption kit filled with valuable information and coupons as well as other various treats or toys as promotions become available. All puppy adoptions include a puppy training book, the Puppy Primer by Patricia McConnell, to help ensure a smooth transition for your new family member.
We ask that you consider an additional donation on top of this pet's adoption fee. This money will go directly into our Adoption Fund to be used exclusively for rescuing and caring for other pets in need. Many pets we take in have very high vet bills to get them healthy and adoptable for the public - much higher than their adoption fees. We receive no government funding and rely solely on donations from our community and caring adopters to continue our rescue efforts!
