Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Gracie, or G2 as we call her, is a sweet older brittany (10-12 years old) looking for her special, forever home. She was found as a stray and brought to an animal shelter where no one came to claim her. We brought her into our home and she fit easily and quietly into this brittany filled home. G2 was covered with sores, her hair was thin and coarse, and her teeth chattered when she first got here. G2 got along with all of our dogs and follows them when outside since her sight and hearing aren't the best. She can hear whistles and loud noises and can see well enough to grab a treat, but she does have cataracts. G2's teeth are in great shape, somebody took partial care of her, but she eats soft food since she seems to like it. G2 is mostly housebroken and with conitnued work , should be housebroken fully. Her requirements are simply to have some soft blankets and doggy beds to lay down on, this makes her happy. She tested positive for lyme's disease which she has been treated for at her foster home. G2 also has some arthritis in her hips for which she takes two baby aspirins a day, upon adoption this foster home will send her new home several months worth of aspirin for her to continue taking. She was very stiff when she first got here but with her lyme's disease being treated and taking her aspirin, she is less stiff and can trot a mile with you. She will never be an agile or quick brittany and would do best in home where she isn't knocked around or bowled over by young brits.
G2 is a beautiful ,smaller brittany weighing around 28 lbs. At night, she sleeps on a dog bed beside our bed and can sleep through the night soundly as long as she has been taken out for a good potty walk before retiring. G2 doesn't require a large yard, but a small, secure yard where she can stretch her legs. Her favorite activities are taking long naps, begging for human food, and giving sweet brittany kisses to anyone that is kind to her. G2 is easy to take of and she deserves to live out her remaining years in a loving home. So, if you are thinking adopting an older brittany for the love of the breed or out of pure kindness, this is the girl for you. Please contact this foster home for any questions about G2.
Update 4-5-08
G2 is still with us and a joy to foster. We often wonder what G2 was like when she was younger and where she came from? My husband thinks she was someone's dog and she simply wondered off, because she is great at begging for food. She just sits there and stares at you or tries to nose her way towards your food. I think she was a fun and lively brittany when she was younger. She has times that her "younger" brittany comes out and she runs around the house like a wild woman, wanting you to play and chase her. We all enjoy seeing her being so spunky! G2 likes going for walks and definitely takes cues from our dogs, probably because her eyesight isn't as good as it used to be...G2 can walk 1-3 miles in cool weather without problems. She still loves her naps and would be a great companion for anyone wanting to sleep in late. Please e-mail us with any questions or if you wish to find more info out on G2. We would love to find her a forever home for her last couple of years but she is welcome to stay with us forever.
Gracie is part of our "Seniors for Seniors companion program", if you are interested in adopting her please visit our website at www.americanbrittanyrescue.org and fill out the online adoption application!
