Here's what the humans have to say about me:
*Petey and Purdy are the most adorable bonded pair and we are more than happy to introduce them now as available for adoption. We know that it is a bit more challenging to find a family that is ready to add two new pups to their family at the same time, but these two are the way to go. They are currently being fostered in Houston, but are available for local or out-of-town adoption.*
This is a very unusual bond that these two sweet dogs have, but it’s a strong one nonetheless. They were picked up separately from different areas by animal control and taken to the same shelter, just outside of Dallas, Texas. This indicates to us that they did not know each other prior to their rescues. Due to overcrowding, these pups were both quickly placed on the euthanasia list and we were notified of their last day. They were beautiful dogs and we knew that they would find wonderful forever families with our program, so we decided to pick them up and give them the chance they both deserved. When the pups were brought out to the parking lot from different areas of the shelter, they instantly ran up to one another and starting licking each other’s faces as if they were long lost best friends. They have been together and inseparable ever since. They were made to be best friends and we wish to keep it that way lifelong. Even their right eye patches are the same, so it was fate! Their foster mom says “these pups are perfection, like bacon and eggs, meant to be together!”
Petey is a very mellow, male Cattle Dog mix weighing in at about 60 pounds. He is estimated to be 3-4 years old. Despite his cool and calm ways, he’s proven to have quite the athletic ability and can jump really high especially if he sees his favorite people on the other side. He needs a yard to play in with a tall, secure fence. His white coat is covered in large, beautiful brindle patches and he has 2 perfectly matching ears. Purdy has a higher energy level than Petey, but they are the perfect pair in that regard because they balance each other out. She is a Pointer mix, also about 3 years old and 60 pounds. Her tail had already been docked, presumably as a puppy and is about 6 inches long. Her shiny white coat is speckled with soft, small dark spots and the occasional large one, like the three on her cute face. They are a perfect combination of active and cuddly for a family that likes to play and snuggle.
Both of these dogs are exceptionally happy at all times, except without each other. We believe that all dogs deserve a chance, but when you meet pups like this….it’s hard to imagine what their fate would have been and the happiness that would have been lost. Both pups are very smart and food motivated, so training should be lots of fun. Training two silly pups at once that always want to play together has been a bit more challenging, but when you separate them, they are just distracted by looking for the other.
Purdy is the protector and will alert her foster family to any unusual things going on around the house. She’s noticed raccoons and other critters in the yard before and will seek out her foster family and take them to the issue. They currently live on a large property in the country where critters are common and we’ve determined that they are not fans of snakes at all. They have taken it upon themselves to protect their family from the snakes that are passing through and they are very proud of themselves for a job well done. They will lead us to their trophy and wait for their praises.
The cutest thing about Petey is his love for children. He pretty much lights up around them and wants to play and have them pet him all day. Purdy does well around kids too, but her thoughts seem to be focused on this little person is going to give me snacks. The cutest thing about Purdy is that she smiles often! They are both exceptional lap dogs, but also enjoy spending lots of time outdoors and even sunbathing on their porch. When these two pups are playing, they love to run around the yard together and playfully wrestle. They eat side by side and Purdy usually snacks from both bowls at first, while Petey finishes them off. What a pair!!
Both Purdy and Petey are healthy pups, Purdy is spayed, Petey is neutered. They are both up to date on their vaccinations and are both microchipped. They are fully potty and crate trained, but could both use some work and practice on the leash training. They both know the commands Sit, No and Let’s Go. They will roll over on their bellies for a good tummy rub. They are a sweet, fun-loving, ready for adventure and loving pair of pups. They must stay together, so they are available to a family that is willing to open their hearts and homes to them. If you’d like more information about Purdy and Petey or would like to speak to their foster mom, please email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org. If this pair is a perfect match for your family, you can apply to adopt them on our website, www.reggiesfriends.org, under the Adoptables tab.
