Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Updated Bio 1-31-16 Brandy is a 6 year old, adorable, little 7 pound Yorkie. She is being fostered in Dunedin, FL.
All in all, Brandy is doing well, although she did have a little setback since her last update. On 1-13-16 Brandy underwent another surgery to remove a suspicious lump, but fortunately it was benign – NOT CANCER – YAY! She will still need to be checked every 3 months for the first year, then if cancer free for a year, every 6 months for the rest of her life. This is not too much to ask for this very sweet, loving little girl.
Brandy says she is really ready for her furever home and can't wait to be with her furever family. She gets along great with all of her fur siblings, but would also do well in as the only dog in the family. She doesn't "meet and greet" very well because she is stand-offish with newcomers, but given a little time she will love her new human mom and dad. She also likes to play with other dogs once she gets to know them. She is not a great fan of young children, so a home with no kids or one over 14 would be the right one for her.
Wouldn’t you love to make this beautiful baby your forever pup? You would not be sorry.
Updated Bio11/30/2015 Brandy is a very sweet, 5.5 year-old little Yorkie girl. She weighs just 7.5 pounds, and has the cutest little face. Brandy loves to be with her human. Brandy gets along well with her foster brothers and sister, and has now realized that the cat isn’t out to get her (she wasn’t too sure at first). Brandy is being fostered in Dunedin, FL.
Brandy had her surgery on Monday, October 12th to remove two large mammary tumors that have been determined to be low grade adenocarcinoma (cancer). She had her follow-up vet appointment on Thursday, October 22nd and we learned that they were able to remove all of the cancer, but she will need to be checked every 3 to 6 months to ensure no more tumors grow back. This should simply require a vet checking her abdomen. She had her dental done November 11th, and had 7 teeth extracted, but has healed nicely from both surgeries.
Brandy is a good eater, loves to walk on a leash, and sleeps all night with her humans (she will sleep all night in her crate too). She is mostly house trained, but may need a little more work with that, as she does sometimes have accidents in the house. She has already become attached to her foster mom and follows her all over the house. She loves to snuggle up and sleep with her humans.
Brandy would do best in a home as the only dog, with someone who will be home a lot of the time to give her lots of love and attention. Although she does get along with her foster brothers and sister, she initially likes to growl and protect her human. If adopted with another dog, she just may take a little extra time to come around to accepting the other dog, but she will come around eventually. She also has a foster cat brother that she has accepted, though it took her about a week to do figure out he wasn’t going to hurt her.
Brandi is waiting for her forever home. If you think you would be the right home for this sweet baby, please fill out an adoption application.
Update 10/16/15
Brandy had a mastectomy to remove two large tumors, as well as getting spayed on Monday,
October 12. We are awaiting the results of her biopsies to determine if she is cancer free. She is
resting comfortably in her foster mom and dad’s home, and slowly getting back to being more
like herself. Brandy bonds very quickly with her human, and wants to be with her foster mom
all the time.
Updated bio 10-4-15 Brandy is our adorable 6 lb. little girl. She is probably less than 6 years old. Brandy is being fostered in Dunedin, FL.
Brandy was initially thought to be 9 years old, but after a visit to the vet we now believe she is closer to 5 or 6 years old, and possibly even younger.
Brandy’s Foster Mom took Brandy to the vet recently for one very large (about the size of 1.5 golf balls) and one smaller (quarter sized) mammary tumor. Brandy also had a bad cough and a bi-lateral ear infection. Because there is a substantial concern that Brandy’s tumors have spread to other areas of her body, we opted to do a chest x-ray. The chest x-ray came back looking very bad. The hope is that it is “just” pneumonia and not cancer.
Brandy will go back to the vet on Monday, October 5th, for a recheck and another chest x-ray. Her cough is all but gone now, but she is still on both of her antibiotics. The estimated cost of the surgery for removal of the tumors and getting her spay done is between $600 – $800.
Brandy is very sweet and loves to be snuggled. She gets along well with the other dogs, but lets it be known if she doesn’t like something.
We will know more about Brandy’s condition and her surgery options very soon. Please consider donating to this sweet little girl’s care. Check back soon for a Brandy update, and let’s hope it’s nothing but good news for Brandy. She deserves it.
Initial Bio 9-25-15 Meet Brandy our little 6 pound, 9 year old darling girl. Brandy is being fostered in Dunedin, FL.
Brandy arrived today from the shelter and will need surgery as soon as possible. She has a mammary tumor that needs to be surgically removed. Brandy may or may not be spayed so she may need that too, along with a dental and all her vaccinations, expect rabies. She will need to be heartworm tested and finger are crossed she is heartworm negative. Brandy has also developed a cough and cold most likely from being in the shelter for a week. Brandy is slightly underweight and needs to gain about a pound. In spite of all this, just image Brandy in a few weeks from now after UYR gets her all healthy, you will find an awesome little sweetheart.
Brandy's foster mom says there is much to learn about Brandy. Please stay tuned as her foster parents get to know her. More information and new pictures coming soon.
