Here's what the humans have to say about me:
**Uno currently lives in Houston with his foster family and he’s available for adoption. His foster mom calls him the “biggest and sweetest chunk of love that ever was” and we hope to find a family that will appreciate him for that.**
Uno is an American Staffordshire terrier and he’s estimate at 4 years old. He is full grown at 70 pounds. This is a far cry from where he started when he was found at 2 years old and 20 pounds. He was found living on a chain, tied to a tree without any food, water or shelter. He was days away from literally starving to death. One our volunteers paid his owner (hard to even call him that) $80 to take Uno and 2 others in the same condition away and into safety. That was nearly 2 years ago and this guy has been the perfect dog ever since.
Uno is always happy and you can see it in his beautiful face and in his hop…that’s right, he hops around when he’s happy. It’s the cutest thing ever to see a big, happy boy express his joy. His past hasn’t followed him through life and he has been an amazing foster and will be the most loyal companion for his new family. Uno LOVES children and lives with a young girl in his foster family. She adores him too, of course, but it’s hard not to love him.
Despite his size, Uno generally considers himself a lap dog. Second to smothering his friends with love, toys are another favorite! He constantly has a rope toy, a ball or a stuffed animal. He’s completely in Heaven in a lap or with a toy….pretty easy to please. Although he likes to cuddle and show affection, he’s not annoyingly affectionate and will hang out independently too. He listens well, so if it’s time to cuddle up alone, he will. He is perfect in the car and would love to travel or even run errands with his new family, but he often takes up a good portion of the seat.
Uno is a healthy boy and despite his severe malnutrition upon his rescue, he was found to be healthy otherwise. He gained some much needed weight and has been happy and healthy ever since. He is house trained, kennel trained and walks well on his leash. He knows several commands such as Sit, Shake, Down and No. He is a smart boy and learns quickly. He likes snacks and is treat motivated, so with some more one-on-one attention, we feel that he can learn new commands and tricks from his new family. He takes the yummy treats gently too. The one trait that stuck with Uno from his days of hunger is that he is protective of his food. He lives with other dogs, so we just feed him separately and that’s the perfect solution.
Uno gets along well with other dogs, but prefers smaller dogs or to be an only fella in the house would be fine too. He also really needs proper, long introductions to new dogs in new places. He sometimes gets nervous and a bit overstimulated with lots of new things all at once. He really loves the two little dogs in his life and they are tiny; a 3 pound Chihuahua and a rat terrier. He doesn’t do well with larger dogs or the ones that have aggressive tendencies. He is big, but not interested in getting into any altercations with others. He’s a lover!
Uno’s ideal family is full of love, fun and adventure. He would love a family, big or small, but one that loves to give and get attention. Belly rubs are definitely one of his favorite moments and he hopes to get them often. He also loves to run, romp and play in the yard, so a fenced in yard would be important for him to have. He would really love to have kids in his life to keep him young, fun and playful.
Uno is neutered, current on all vaccinations, microchipped and heartworm negative. He is currently living in Houston with his foster family and he’s available for adoption with a $300 adoption fee. His foster mom loves him dearly and will be a very helpful during his adoption process to ensure he is a good fit for his new family. If Uno sounds like the perfect addition to your family, please email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org.
