Hi! My name is Cherry! I am a 5 year old, mini, double dapple smooth doxie! I weigh a whopping 10 lbs (but could stand to gain a pound). I am slightly hard of hearing and have limited vision but foster mom says that nothing slows me down and I am just as beautiful on the outside as I am on the inside. I am spayed, up to date on all of my shots and even have had a dental where I lost 11 teeth – ouchy!
Even though I am what you’d consider “special needs”, I was born with these genetic birth defects (as a result of ignorant breeding) and to me, I am normal! I was dumped in the overnight pet drop box at an Ohio shelter. Why on earth there’s a need for such a thing, I will never know. I was skinny, smelly and had a mouth full of rotten teeth. You’d think I’d be mad at the world but on the contrary – I am just too kind to hold a grudge. Plus, now I am living the good life at foster ma and pa’s! I have a warm place to rest, great food, toys and foster siblings to keep me company! I enjoy everyone – men, women, dogs (big and small) and even cats! I would probably do fine with kids but because I am “special” and tiny, foster mom says only older, doggy-savy children, please! I am crate trained, although have recently gained big bed privileges – score! And am about 90 % housetrained when kept on a routine schedule. I even get free roam of the house when the ‘rents are out; I just snooze with my doggy pals. Foster mom refers to me as a busy bee as I have to know exactly what’s going on at all times. To make up for my poor eye sight and hearing, my nose is always working overtime. I love, love, love my walks and when that leash comes out my tail starts wagging and I can’t help but dance! I am even great off leash as long as I am in a secure area because sometimes my nose gets the best of me and I may not be able to hear or see you. I make a great snuggle companion but also can be independent. I don’t bark excessively but I do have a voice and when I want something, I’m not afraid to let you know. I think foster mom has a couple of quick words for you!
Cherry is a joy! She is such a happy, loving, well-balanced little gal. She loves everyone and everything. She has displayed no forms of aggression whatsoever and is sweet as pie. Cherry’s ideal home would be someone committed to a special needs dog. She would do best with a canine pal and although she has displayed no signs of separation anxiety in our care, she has foster siblings to keep her company. An active family would be a bonus – camping, hiking and the outdoors are right up this girls ally (but don’t worry, movie nights are also in her repertoire). What a marvelous little dog! If you have any questions about our sweet Cherry Berry, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
