My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**NEWEST ADDITION TO HOUNDS HAVEN**

Hi all, my name is Momma Daisy Duke, just plain Daisy for short. And I am just as sweet as the daisy flower :0). I've had a rough few months and back on the mend now, but let me you tell my story. About 8 weeks ago I wandered into this kind ladies back yard in a southern town in MO. I don't know I how I got there all I know is she was an angel sent down to me. When this nice lady started feeding me she thought I had already had my puppies. But long behold I was just getting ready to give birth to them. the only cool quiet place I could find was under the neighbors house. Well the neighbor didn't like that at all and called the nice lady and told her to come get me and my 6 kiddos other wise he wouldn't be nice to my babies. So that she did, she came and took me in out of the cold rainy weather, put me and my babies in a warm box with blankets on her back porch and then contacted this rescue through the help of a rescuer in her town. Well this rescue made some pleas for help and some wonderful nice people came and got me and my babies and took me to the vet man for a check-up. But I still needed a more stable place to nurse my babies and that's how I ended up in KS with on the rescues dear friends. And boy oh boy has it been great here. I've had the most love, kindness and patience I have ever had here. And my babies are healthy and happy. But that has been a long road. See I and my babies weren't feeling so great when we got here and we had test after test to see what it was making us feel so icky. And it came back we had Coccidiosis. It's this nasty intestinal buggie that takes away all our nutrients. Well the rescue got on that right away and gave me and my babies this icky tasting medicine to get rid of those buggies. My kiddos started acting a little better, but I still wasn't feeling quite right. Back again I went to the vet man and they then found out I have Ehrlichiosis, a tick-borne illness that can have great consequences on a dogs body if not found and treated early. Here is a link to some info to Ehrlichiosis:

. Well on antibiotics I went. But my puppies had to be weaned at that time, due to the fact my milk supply could pass the medicine to my babies and it wasn't safe for them to have that. Well during my weaning process I developed a life threatening infection in my teats called Mastitis. I developed a fever, my teats became enlarged and hardened to the sizes of grapefruits and Cantaloupes. Well back to that vet man again I went and again I got more antibiotics. He told mom if my hardness didn't go away in my teats I would have to have major surgery to have them removed :0( Well after a few days on the antibiotic I am feeling much better. And starting to act much perkier, more my age, which is 10-12 months old, so see I am still a puppy too. But mom wants all of you to know not to worry none, all these illnesses don't stick with me and once I am all healed up I will be a normal girl. I am a very sweet girl, house trained through a doggy door, so if I go to a forever home without a doggy door I will need a little reassurance on the house training issue. I LOVE all other hounds, cats and kids. Just more love for me. At one point in my life someone was not so nice to me and if you come at me too fast I get really scared, so in new situations I need to go just a little slower. I am what mom calls a "velcro" hound, apparently that means I stick to you like glue and only want ATTENTION!! I am being moved to IA on the 21st of June, another adventure I and my babies look forward too :0) And I will be in foster care for a couple of weeks, still getting to feel better and then I get to go back to the vet man to get altered (which has to be done before I can go home). But the rescue is taking applications for my FOREVER home now. If you want to hear more about me please let mom know and she will tell you all you need to know
