My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Scrappy's a 5 year old, 5 pound Yorkie male being fostered in McFarland, WI 53558 - to find out more about him contact his foster momma at: shellylampe@hotmail.com
Scrappy was surrendered to United Yorkie Rescue by his previous owner who no longer had time to care for him due to a job change. Scrappy was trained by this person using a shock collar. United Yorkie Rescue does not support the use of any type of behavior modification using collars for training purposes, including for invisible fences or bark training. Because he was trained with the use of a collar and is no longer on that type of collar, he’s been exhibiting bad habits that are being worked on. He’s making progress, but needs more work. Because he learned his behaviors around wearing a shock collar, when the collar is removed, he displays some aggression. We have been using a citronella spray collar and the collar stops most aggressive tendencies. He’s very smart and is catching on quickly however. Scrappy needs an experienced dog person, knowledgeable in strong personalities. He will be fine as a single or additional dog, but it should be noted that it takes him time to warm up and needs the experienced dog person to help him with his ‘Big Dog’ syndrome, he is very strong willed. Initially he chased his foster dog siblings, and with some time we’ve learned that with the citronella collar and correction of his behavior he’s doing better. Scrappy will need continued work with socialization, such as how to greet other dogs when he's out on a walk, and takes well to redirection. He may always need to wear this collar, only time and continued behavior work will tell. He loves to cuddle and will work his way to your lap, even if it means jumping up. He’s a great eater and has never had accidents in the house or displayed marking habits. Scrappy's favorite things are playing with toys, eating, going out for walks, and snuggling. He’s up-to-date with vaccinations and is current on heartworm and both pee-pad and house-trained. Because of his size, no children under the age 12 in the home.
Scrappy bolts through the door every opportunity he gets, so because of this his forever home will need to have a fenced in yard for his safety. If you’re looking for a loyal pup with lots of love to give, Scrappy just may be your man! To complete an application, go to: http://www.unitedyorkierescue.org or email: info@uyr.us
