My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Lola Bug is currently living in Houston, Texas with her wonderful foster mom, but she wants a family that she can call her own. She’s available for out-of-state adoption.**

Many people look at Lola and don’t consider her for adoption because she is an American Staffordshire Terrier and she’s 60 pounds, but if you want the perfect dog….please keep reading.

Lola Bug was 2 years old when we took her in from a shelter in a small town in South Texas. She was on the euthanasia list due to overcrowding and had clearly been treated very poorly in her short life. Her body indicated that she had just recently had a litter of puppies and probably one or two others prior to that. She’s been living in a family for a couple of years, but their new dog was not friendly to her, so we took Lola Bug back by choice. She deserves better than that. She’s now 5 years old and very much a perfect pooch!

You will not find a happier girl than Lola Bug. She’s oozes sweetness and love. Snuggling with her people and lounging on you or right next to you are her favorite times of the day, but she will also lie on a dog bed if you tell her to. She is easy to please and is happiest with her $1 blanket from Wal-Mart. Her short, thick, stocky body is perfect for a good cuddle on a cold day, if you aren’t feeling well or when you are feeling great and just love your girl. It’s probably not the best body style if one is looking for a long distance running partner. She’s more of trotter in the back yard type of girl.

Lola Bug gets along fine with other dogs, but she definitely prefers a calmer, lower energy dog. She loves to play with them, but she doesn’t appreciate the dogs that jumps up on her constantly and are always rough and have dominant personalities. She is such a lover of people that she’d probably be best suited for a family as the only dog in the house. Now, everyone has at least one flaw and we can’t skip over the fact that Lola Bug is included in that. She has exactly one and it is that she’s not a fan of cats. Although she will chase a cat, she doesn’t seem to mind the squirrels or flying bugs that come into her yard.

Lola Bug is great with kids, but because of her size and her play style, we feel that older kids would be perfect and tiny kids would probably unintentionally get knocked over. She would love to have a kid in her life to adore and be their personal lap dog. As much as she likes to be affectionate, she also loves to play. She never learned how to fetch a ball, but she is great on her leash and enjoys daily walks. Car rides are lots of fun for Lola and she’d like to go anywhere she’s allowed and anytime you’d like to take her. She’s very well-behaved and helps to educate people that the bully breeds are excellent dogs.

The funniest thing about this girl is the way she sleeps on her back because it causes her to snore. She’s hysterical in the pose! She is completely house trained, crate trained and a perfect lady inside. She likes to sleep inside of her crate, but doesn’t really need it anymore. She is extremely treat driven and we think she could probably learn to jump through a ring of fire if there was a treat waiting on the other side. She takes them very gently despite her love of them. Lola Bug is very protective of her food and we feel that stems from the situation she had to endure for the first couple of years of her life. She is not at all protective with her people, only with other dogs. If she’s an only dog in her future, it’s not an issue at all and if there are others around, she simply needs to eat inside of her kennel.

Lola Bug’s ideal family includes a loving family, but also one that will give her the structure and guidance that a large dog needs. She is an intelligent girl, so she needs rules and boundaries just like a teenager. She likes to play hard once or twice per day, then just get and give love the rest of the day. Lola Bug lives with an amazing foster mom that will introduce her to anyone that is interested in making her an important member of the family. She will add so much joy to the family that gives her that chance. She been described as “the dream dog” , but has been passed over numerous times because of her size and the stereotype that her breed carries here in the Southern states.

She is available for local or out-of-state adoption. Her adoption fee is $500 to help cover the cost of her crate and bed that she arrives with and are hers to keep upon arrival. She is spayed, microchipped, current of her vaccinations and is ready to fall in love with her new family. If she sounds perfect for your family, please fill out the adoption application on our website, www.reggiesfriends.org under the Adoptables tab.
