Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Kevin. He's a 2-3 year old blue merle great dane who weighs about 110 pounds. Kevin is current with vaccinations, tested negative for heartworm disease, is neutered and microchipped. When Kevin first came to us, we noticed he limped occasionally, so we had the leg xrayed. Diatnosis is this appears to be a small, OLD, already healed tear in the meniscus. Our veter inarian sent the xrays to an orthopedic veterinarian for a specialist's opinion. The surgery is to give mobility, which he already has, so they didn't feel like surgery was necessary and can be managed with anti-inflammatory meds and regular exercise. His limping are more noticeable after strenuous play or after being cooped up in a kennel all day. The X-rays are available for approved applicants to ask their veterinarian to review prior to adoption.
We don't know what Kevin's life was like before, but it's apparent he didn't have the best of homes. An old injury that was never addressed, rope burns around his ankles. He's a very sweet boy who still has a lot of energy. We're not certain if he's housebroken because he is in boarding, but so far h as been doing fairly well with keeping his kennel clean. A home with a family member is home a lot or can run by during the day to let him out would be best. Kevin also needs a fenced yard.
Kevin is fine with other dogs, both small and large, but will defend himself if challenged. It will be critical that Kevin meet with any other dogs in the family. In his after surgery foster home, he mingled beautifully with another male great dane and a small terrier mix.
Kevin is good with children and had a toddler in his foster home. This toddler very respectful of extra large dogs since she was raised with a great dane. So Kevin be best in a home with older children or younger children who are respectful of extra large dogs. Kevin is very sweet, but he's a big boy who could accidentally knock down a small child.
This handsome boy needs a break and he's so worth it. He craves time with people. He's very attentive so learning doggie manners and new tricks should be easy. Kevin will benefit with regular exercise so an active family would be wonderful for Kevin.
Are you interested in adding Kevin to your family? He's a big sweet boy who's ready to move on to his new life with a new family.
