My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Spotty is currently living in a loving foster home in Houston and is available for adoption.**

Miss Spotty, a beautiful 1.5 year old, 44 pound Pointer mix, is more than ready to join her new family. She is a perfect size and energy for just about everything, all outdoor activities, lounging in the house, taking car rides and snuggling on the couch. She has a beautiful white coat with a couple of large reddish spots, hence her name. She has an adventurous spirit and lots of love to share. She is an excellent dog and hopes that someone is in need of a constant companion so she can shine and make your days brighter.

Life was a bit tough as a youngster for Spotty. She had an owner and they surrendered her to the county shelter in October 2014. She stayed at the shelter for a while and was again adopted in May of 2015, but just a few weeks later she was back. Her size is perfect and she’s one of the smartest dogs we know, but her breed is a very active one, which didn’t match up with the two families she lived with. She’s a dream dog, but not for a family that has a lower energy level and not driven to go fun things. She needs an active family that understands her love of learning, exploring and exercise. She would be an amazing friend for an energetic, adventure seeking owner.

Spotty is perfectly potty trained and kennel trained. She likes her kennel for short periods of time, but clearly would rather be with her friends. She is good with other dogs and older children, but cats are not recommended. She loves to play chase with anyone (dogs and humans alike). She likes to play fast and hard, so she prefers medium to large dogs that are on the same energy level, although she does try to play with smaller dogs that tend not to engage much. Her favorite activities are exploring the back yard, taking jogs, playing with other dogs and anything with her people. She’s not particularly driven by stuffed toys or balls, but she does love puzzle toys and chew treats that have her work for the reward.

She’s very affectionate towards people and loves to cuddle. Belly rubs are also high on her list of loves! After giving and receiving lots of love and affection, then is off to her next adventure. She’s so cute when she cocks her head to the side as if to ask, What’s up?

Spotty is working on her basic training and sits on command. She has learned to loose leash walk without pulling, except an occasional moment of excitement. When the command “Here” is given, she turns back to you, well…at least most of the time. She’s a very obedient pup, but since all of this training is still rather new to her she will still need reminders, corrections and consistency until it is all habit. Pieces of hot dog are her favorite training incentives and work very well. She loves her treats and is still a little quick to grab them from you.

She sleeps in her kennel because the resident cat in her foster home runs free at night, but she would prefer to sleep at the foot of the bed with her foster mom. When it’s time to take a nice ride in the car, her foster tells her to load up and she is ready to head for the park or lake. She LOVES to swim! She would be in Heaven at the beach, lake or even a doggy pool in her yard. Spotty is best suited for an area with lots of action like hiking, camping, swimming and running. She would make a perfect hunting companion or running partner, but would still very much need to be a part of the family as she as affectionate as she is active. She is extremely bright, which can make her seem a little stubborn, but given the proper exercise and mental stimulation, she will make a spectacular canine companion!

Spotty is spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated. She is living in Houston where we found her at the shelter, but she’s not attached to this city, she’s just looking to live the life that she deserves. She would be an excellent dog for a family with the time to take her to parks, events and lots of outdoor fun days. She just needs a partner to share her time with. If you and Spotty seem to be a perfect match, please fill out the adoption application on our website, www.reggiesfriends.org under the Adoptables tab or email us for more information at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org. Her adoption fee is $300.
