Here's what the humans have to say about me:
**Zena is currently living in a wonderful foster home in Houston and is dreaming of a forever family. She is now available for adoption.**
My name is Zena and I’m a Labrador/Plott hound with the most stunning brindle coat! I’m estimated to be about 1.5 years old. I’m just 35 pounds and still need to put on a couple more. I’m happy-go-lucky with my foster family, but I can be a little shy with new people at first. I warm up quickly with some affection, sweet words and a treat.
I love kids, other dogs and even get along with the cat. I actually don’t really have anything to do with the cat, so we are fine together. I’m fully potty trained, kennel trained and I am still learning to walk well on my leash. That’s a very new concept to me as I had never tried that before I landed here. Boy am I glad that I got so lucky and taken in because my life is so much better now. I’m very smart and pick up on new things really quickly. My foster mom goes as far to say I’m a tidbit sneaky…but I have no idea what she’s talking about.
I know one command already and that is “Sit”. I’m really good at it if there are treats involved. I also know the command “Zena to me”, which means my foster mom wants me front and center.
My favorite hobbies are to chase squirrels and flying bugs in my yard, run around, sniff and play with my doggy friends. I’m a Hound dog, so I am true to my breed in the fact that I like to investigate and hunt (even if it is just bugs and strange smells). My softer side is the snuggly, cuddle bug that I am around my people. I would take a belly rub over a day’s worth of food! I love, love, love those!
I’m crate trained, but I’m very protective of my space. I don’t like for the other dogs to get into my crate because it’s mine and it’s the first thing that I had that’s just for me. I just need to you close the door behind me so nobody can go inside. I sleep in my crate at night and I sleep well, especially after a long day of goofing off in the yard or inside the house.
The ideal family for me is an active family that will include me on all of their adventures. I love other dogs and dream about having a great playmate in my forever family. I ride nicely in the car, but sometimes I get a little antsy, but never sick or act like a nuisance.
I’m spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated. Like many strays rescued off of the Houston streets, I’m heartworm positive and I’m already into my treatment. I take medications twice a month to help me over this issue and all of my medications to complete my treatment will come with me when I’m adopted. I hope that fact doesn’t change your mind about me!
If you want to add me to your family, please fill out the adoption application on our website, www.reggiesfriends.org or email adoptions@reggiesfriends.org today. My adoption fee is $300. This stunning girl is ready for a family!
