ELSA
Elsa is a 6 month old female puppy just beginning to come out of her shell. She's adorable and has lots of love to give. Beautiful Elsa is shy with people. Part of the reason is that shyness is part of her normal temperament. The other reason is that she was caged at a veterinarian’s office for over 2 months during her most formative months. The veterinarian and the technicians gave her love and hugs, but she was not in a home environment therefore she only learned limited things. We're working on socializing her now and she'll need to continue when adopted.
Elsa still needs to continue learning about being a family member. Shy spirited dogs don't need pity, just encouragement and special ways of learning. She needs lots of new things in her life without being forced to face them. Elsa needs to face new things kind of at her own pace. Praise is a good way to teach her desired behaviors.
She has been in an environment with many dogs for the last 5 weeks (as of 04.12.15) and loves other dogs although she can be tentative about meeting them. She does not like to be outside by herself. However, with another dog that she knows she has a blast playing! Elsa will likely reach her full potential in a home with another dog.
She LOVES being inside in her crate. This is her safe place. It is really important to keep her a safe place (or two) in your home for her. Her safe place should have covered sides so that she feels like she has a cave to get into. We recommend not shutting her out of her safe place.
Elsa is a sweet, soft spirited puppy who WILL hide to eliminate (potty). For some people this can be frustrating but Elsa will find her place to potty and should be allowed to go there.
She should not be touched in discipline, not even lightly. With soft-hearted, shy dogs like Elsa your relationship can be damaged by physical punishment. We want her to be outgoing and loving so you'll have a wonderful bond and relationship! A simple "no" will be enough discipline for her.
Elsa is being fostered with a behavioral trainer who cares deeply for her. Her foster mom will provide more information and is happy to assist both you and Elsa at time of her adoption~
