My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Updated bio 2/2/2016 Benji is an amazing 6.5-year-old, 11 pound yorkie mix, He is being fostered in Mobile, AL

This super sweet big hunk of a snuggle muffin is really looking for a forever home. Now that his days of being on the streets are over he is learning to love the luxury of a real home life.

Benji still loves to run around in the backyard to make sure there are no squirrels on the ground! During his outside time his foster mom has always accompanied him. He may run around but always makes sure he can see her. When she says, "let's go inside," Benji RUNS to follow her. He doesn’t want to be alone without her. He loves his people so much.

Benji will let you know when he has to go potty. He still wears a bellyband in the house at times in case he has an accident. Foster mom puts one on him when she leaves as a precautionary measure.

Benji walks great on the leash and is fine in the car. He gets along with other dogs and he likes older kids too.

Benji is a total snuggle bug. He loves attention but does not demand it. He will quietly follow you into a room and sit as close as possible until you pick him up. If you are sitting on a sofa he wants to be touching you. At night he prefers to sleep on the bed but will not crowd your space (he likes to sleep at the foot of the bed).

Though Benji only has one eye (a result of his life before United Yorkie Rescue) he gets around just fine. He may have a little trouble seeing you from the right side, but it is not a problem.

This wonderful boy has been waiting patiently for his forever home. He will be the best buddy you ever had and the love you give him will be returned back to you every day. If beautiful Benji sounds like the perfect addition to your family please fill out an application. You will not be sorry. He will give you unending loyalty and love!

Updated bio 1-8-16 Benji is the cutest guy. He is 6.5 years old and weighs a perfect 11 pounds. He is being fostered in Mobile, AL.

Being the cool dog that he is, Benji wants to speak for himself.

Wassup? It’s me BENJI-- former Street Dog and now loving the easy life with Foster Mom. Life on the street was tough for this here dude. As you can see I lost an eye and had a few gross bug problems. United Yorkie Rescue fixed me all up, and man look at me now!! Ain't I a Handsome Hunk?? People tell me I got that rascal-pirate look goin’... just adds to my cool swagger...It's all good.

As cushy as life is now, it will be OUTSTANDING when I get one of those Furever Homes. You've got a good-looking, comfy lap, right? Give good belly-rubs? Don't mind me sleeping at your feet in your bed with you? (Promise I will respect your space!)... That's what I'm talking about! I also need a fenced backyard to let me have what I love most - OUTSIDE time! Nothing like singing the song of my people with the other boys in the Hood. I get restless if I have to spend my whole day inside - even if it is in luxury. A fellow's got to move, and if I ain't sleepin, I'm movin!

There are several of us dogs here, and we all get along nicely. Most of them follow Foster Mom around all day, but I am more of an independent sort of guy...Foster Mom appreciates that about me. I have been trying to learn what Foster Mom calls "house manners.” It’s not so easy to give up my street ways, but Foster Mom says I am doing sooo much better.

On account of this one-eye thing I got going on, if you have some bigger kids, that's cool. They just need to be old enough to watch out for me to avoid collisions and stuff like me getting stepped on. It’s because I don't always see what's coming so you can't always count on me getting out of the way.

So what do you think? You know you want me! I'll make you so happy! Just contact those nice United Yorkie Rescue people at Unitedyorkierescue.org and tell 'em you want BENJI, the cutest and the best boy in the neighborhood. You know I’m the pal you’ve always wanted. I’m wishing and hoping and waiting to see your adoption application. So come on, do it!
Benji update 12/15/15 -- Benji is a sweet, adorable, 6-7 year oldfellow. He weighs 12 pounds. Benji is being fostered in Mobile, AL

Benji was once a sad, depressed, and lonely street dog until United Yorkie Rescue stepped up for him. No one else had to, since like most of the little dogs UYR rescues, Benji had a variety of medical issues including tick sickness, kennel cough, a gaping wound where his right eye was should have been--but wasn’t, and badly needed dental work. UYR got him a loving, caring foster home, and fixed him right up!

Benji is now a healthy, happy, always-moving and grooving 6-7year old, 12 lb., one-eyed, super cool cutie! But I will let HIM tell you just how cool he is.

Hello, it’s me Benji...Man, this place is awesome! I get goodeats, fur-buddies to hang with, and a foster mom who cuddles with me - when I slow down for cuddles. My former street life had me always on the go, and it's how I roll now... ’If I ain't sleepin, I'm movin,’ so I would not be happy being strictly a "house dog" - I need a fenced back yard where I can sniff and roam and sing the song of my people to the other fur-kids in the 'hood!' I don't complain when I have to be in a kennel, but I sure am happy when I get out. Foster Mom says I was on the street long enough to think I could do my business anywhere, but am slowly learning otherwise. Probably why I like being outside so much. Foster Mom sometimes puts a "belly band" on me when I have to be inside for a while...I can really rock those things - lookin good!

All the ladies tell me my one-eyed look only makes look even more handsome! They say I look very rakish. Sometimes It makes it hard to see something coming from that side, so I don't always get out of the way of feet. I need a home where my peeps are old enough to watch out for me, so no little kids, please.

I am really good with all other fur-kids here. They appreciate me not getting in their face about anything. I learned on street not to sweat the small stuff. Foster Mom says that makes me sweet enough to frost a cake with. Works for me! I am feeling the itch to finally settle down into a furever home where I could pitter-pat right into a warm friendly lap and get my belly rubbed, or roam a fenced backyard. Fearless and frisky and just BE the cool dude I am! Am I talking to YOU??

If you hear my call, please fill out an adoption application for me. You will never regret it for one second. I am the best there is in the entire hood.

Updated Bio 11-16-15 Benji is the sweetest 11 pound, 6.5 year old boy. He is being fostered in Mobile, AL.

Our Benji Boy says he is more than ready for his furever home. He is in his prime (6-7 years old) of his life. He has Yorkie Love to give in abundance. This former street kid lost an eye before he came to UYR, but he says the look only makes him that much sexier. It certainly has not dulled his Yorkie attitude!
His FM will be happy to answer any questions you may have about making this brave boy your forever and ever pup! E-mail radiomom53@hotmail.com

Updated bio 10-21-15 Benji is an amazing 6.5-year-old, 11 pound sweet, sweet boy. He is being fostered in Mobile, AL

Life is GOOD for this former street dude. Benji loves being in a home where he has plenty of friends to hang with. No street corners now, just a cozy corner of the bed and sunny corners of the fenced backyard, where he LOVES singing the song of his people to the neighborhood dogs. They have a chorus going!

Benji's eye surgery went well, and he is all healed up. Having one eye has not slowed him down.
He is a bit cautious about jumping DOWN, he is still confident about jumping UP - steps are no problem for this guy.

Benji sure appreciates meal times and wishes they would come around more often. He loves his people and his doggie roommates, and prefers dogs his size. Bigger dogs seem to intimidate him.

Because of his vision, he has a hard time judging how near he is to things, and sometimes does not move out of the way quickly enough. He would do best in a home

with older kids who would understand they must look out for him.
He would be their best buddy.

Being a former street dog, Benji's street-cred has made it difficult for him to be house-trained, but
his foster parents are working on it. For now they are using belly bands when he is in the house, but he prefers to be outside anyway. He is just a nature loving guy. . . until it comes to bedtime - then he is more than happy to sleep in a nice warm secure bed with you! No accidents there!

Benji struts his curly tail like he KNOWS how cute it is, and he is hoping someone is so enchanted with his smooth good looks that they will want to give him a furever home!

You can contact Benji’s Foster Mom at
Radiomom53@hotmail.com and she will be happy to tell you all about this smart, loving, soon to be furry guy! Benji had to be shaved down when he was first rescued from the street because he was surely a mess, but his hair is growing back quite handsomely, as you can see! Please consider giving this fellow a forever home. You won’t be sorry.

Updated Bio 9/26/15 Benji is a 6 ½ year old, 11 pound Yorkie boy being fostered in Mobile AL.

Benji is enjoying his life at Foster Mom's! He has many fur friends to keep him entertained, (only dogs here -not sure how entertaining cats would be!) and he feels soooo much better since having his dental (he did have to have a few removed, but he never complained). Benji came to UYR with an empty right eye socket and our Vet advised stitching the lid closed as the open socket was just inviting troubles with infections so Benji has just had that completed and is healing nicely. This little dude is a "Take-Charge!" kind of guy! He is not shy about barking his orders to be let in or let out. He most definitely dislikes being in a kennel! Not for this former street-kid! He will try to tell you that you NEVER feed him enough, and he will telepath his need for treats to you! Benji is only still when he sleeps, which he does curled up at Foster Mom's feet. With other fur-kids in the home Foster Mom’s lap is almost always occupied but Benji waits his turn to share and accepts that.

Because he has just one eye his perception is a little off and he is leery of jumping down from the higher places (like the bed) but has no trouble with UP! Benji loves to lap sit, get belly rubs, being picked up & cuddled, and go for walks. He does not get out of the way of moving objects very quickly since he only sees from his one eye, so to avoid accidents we feel he would be happier in a home with older kids who would watch out for him. Benji is catching on to house training, but he has to go frequently, so for now he is wearing belly bands while inside. Benji is a sweet, lovable, highly adaptable, street-smart little man, ready to walk right into your heart and home!

If you think you would be a perfect forever home for Benji please apply to adopt him!

Initial Bio 8/25/15 Benji is a very sweet, 7.9 pound little guy. He is about 6.5 years old and is being fostered in Mobile, AL.

Benji has finally arrived at his foster home in Mobile, AL. He made the long trip from South Florida to Mobile and is settling into his new home. We can tell you he is a great car rider, so quiet and so patient.

Being has had a rough few weeks. He was diagnosed with Ehrlichia which is a sickness dogs can get from a tick. It is very treatable and curable. In fact, in a few weeks he will be just fine. He also developed kennel cough and is currently being treated for that too. He will need some good, healthy, high quality food and a nice medicated bath or two to help his coat be beautiful again.

Benji was one very sad, depressed, and lonely dog waiting to be rescued. But no more. He is now in a wonderful foster home with a family who will love him and care for him until he is healthy and happy and ready for his forever home.

Benji's medical care has been expensive. Please find it in your heart to donate whatever you can towards his care and to allow United Yorkie Rescue to continue to give him the medical care he will need as he fights his way to recovery.

Once his foster parents get to know Benji a little better they will update his bio, so watch for that. Benji's foster parents asked that you please excuse the pink harness on him. That is all they had that would fit him. He really is a boy and will have a boy harness next picture.

We know Benji won't be ready for is forever home for at least 3 - 4 weeks, but applications are being accepted. If you think you might be the right family to love this little guy fill out an adoption application for him. You won't be sorry.
