*** Please be patient, we are a very small organization and we all sadly have to work and have families just like you. We also know the excitement of finding a pet that could be your furever family member and we receive numerous inquiries
from other families who feel the same way. Our primary goal is matching the perfect family with our pups and do not practice first come, first serve". We are setting up many meet and greets with our pups and the family could be found prior to you even getting to meet them. We will make sure all potential adopters who inquired are updated if the pup has been adopted. We do not want to waste anyone's time and recommend you keep looking while you wait to hear from us and as always Thank You for adopting and not shopping. ***
Adoption applications will be sent via email only, we do not have them posted online anywhere or on a website. Please visit us on our Facebook page for more information and photos of our adoptable pup by using our link Web: www.facebook.com/TheFirstStepRescue

My name is Coby, and I'm male 10lb Yorkie who just had a birthday and turned 9yr in July. I am a total character and just love people, children and so far like other dogs of different sizes. I have never been around cats so I do not know what I would do. I have had 2 prior homes and came in as an owner surrender. My foster Mommy and Daddy say I am a total character and like to have lots of fun. I have been crate trained and I am housebroken and per my last family I was also pee pad trained but do not use one in my foster home. I do love having a yard and would be ideal for my new family actually have a home because I do like to chat to get you to play which some people may not like in apartment living. I have the worlds cutest under-bite too!!

Yeeea I finally arrived at my foster home and I am settling in nicely, I meet my 3 roommates Leo,Miles and Katie who will be showing me the ropes around here. My Mommy brought me and was very sad, she said she had me for 5 years and really didn't want to let me to go. I use to live with an older woman who went into a nursing home so someone took me into their home and found me my 2nd home with my Mommy and family. My Mommy told the rescue that due to her work schedule and medical reasons caused a lack of funds to care for me. She felt that it also wasn't fair to me due to her new work schedule to leave e home as much as I was and said she felt I needed a better life. She contacted another rescue known for caring for my breed but they were full and they contacted The First Step knowing I would be well cared for and Mommy wanted that too.
I did do some marking when I first came into the house and m Mommy said I always do that when I first get to a new home or visit but then I stop so we will see what happens and if I will need work with that. Well my foster Mommy said .around 7 I found a toy I wanted and I calmed down a lot. She say's I bark for everything I want and I am going to start my crate training since I am still marking. I was barking while in my crate and per my Mommy I was never in a crate before, I was always blocked in the kitchen. My foster Mommy stayed with me for the night then later we all went into the bedroom where I slept on the bed and was so very happy to be snuggled under the blankets. The rescue and my foster are going to fatten me up as I am a tad underweight for unknown reasons.

Wall so far today no marking!! I'm doig really god and getting along better with the other pups, you see I am active for an older dog I act more like a puppy then I do a 9yr old and my partners in crime are not use to my energy level. I decided I don't like the food my Mommy left for the rescue and I am not eating the other dogs food but I will eat treats and s coupe scraps so it is not due to nerves. We will see what happens in the next coupe of days.

Well I am still not eating but a few pieces of the food Mom left or the food the foster family eats which may be why I am underweight. My foster family pups are getting use to me and I have calmed down much more since arriving. So far no marking and foster Mommy is keepin a close eye on me, I don't even stop to sniff the spots I marked in anymore.

Well I am not eating the food and foster Mommy tried some samples and FINALLY I found one I liked and will eat. It is a bit expensive but the rescue wanted me to eat and also to gain weight and they believe in high quality food so that's what I am eating right now, I love this stuff nom-nom-nom
I had a visitor come over and was so happy to have someone come meet me.. I got some pets and lovin too.

Well I am doing great with my crate training my foster Mommy gets me to go in the crate when she leaves for work, I run into it like the others do w/theirs. I even got Miles my foster sibling to play tug-o-war today with me too and he played for a few seconds. I love to go out now to see if Skylar, the dog behind my fosters house is out or not and I will stand there and bark at her until foster Mom comes and picks me up. She even introduced us through the fence and with all my barking, Skylar wanted no part of me, but now will sit there while I talk to her. Did i mention I attack the vacuum when it is on? Foster Mom thinks I would do well with another dog my size to play with.

Foster Mom says I would be good in any home pretty much because I am barking less. I still like to talk when I want something esp if your ignoring me. Today I didn't even bark at the neighbor's dog, she barked at me instead..I think she likes me. Miles and I are getting along the best so far, he is the older pup in the foster home who wants to play with me, Foster Mom is amazed..I do so love the fenced in yard I have!!
I do likes to play either w/ another dog that will play with me or my new family must want to play with me,. I'll play fetch and tug-o-war and I'm usually high energy after dinner and want to play..and if you ignore me I'll bark at you until you do. I use to bark while my foster family was eating but I have stopped that now but occasionally I will bark at foster Daddy. My foster Mommy says there really isn't anything negative to say about me. We need to work on the command COME though., eventually I'll come but sometimes I don't want to, I'm having to much fun so foster Mom will try and work with me on come/stay. I'll rough house a little too if you want to play with me and I also plays by himself a little bit too but I would rather have a playmate. I do go right in the crate now when foster mom leaves and I now sleep in the bed when foster Dad to bed, I use to hang with mom but since all the pups go with dad I go to. I'm still liking my food and will not touch my old food. I am a very good dog but I need play time so a more active family would be best for me, someone who wants to spend time with me and play, snuggle ad love me. Someone who is not away more then home as I do well with my potty but I do seem to need to go potty in the middle of the night and my foster Mom works from home and when she works out of the home is not gone all day. I have more energy then my foster friends and they are younger then me.

I am such a happy go lucky pup with energy that will make you rethink I am 9yrs old. I love to play outside and go for walks and adore older children. I do get aong great with dogs my size and love to play more then my 3yr old foster brother so a playful dog would be great in my family. I am totally housebroken and love to go into my crate when my foster mom has to go out. I am always learning new tricks and love learning. I would still do best in a home vs apt-condo due to my active play talking but I am settling down on that. I am hoping Santa finds my furever home because I want to love and be loved!.
