Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Jet has experienced more in his 2 years of life than most dogs will experience in their whole lives. Jet arrived from Mexico on the mend from a badly broken lower leg and a lonely, difficult beginning. He was quite wary of humans (still is initially) and reluctant to let many close to him. Thanks to equal doses of youth, canine resilience and excellent care, love and patience, he is healthy and ready to find a forever home.
Jet is your typical young dog: testing limits, learning his pack manners, and wanting to run and play all the time. He has received basic training but still needs a confident and patient pack leader to ensure he continues his path to good socialization and settles happily into his new family. He has proven to be not only a resilient dog but also very smart and a quick learner.
Jet would flourish in a home where there are no small children or cats but could fit well into a home where there is another, perhaps older dog to teach him the ropes and boundaries and where he get lots of love, exercise and playtime. A family where there is someone home a lot would be beneficial as initially he would need the support and knowledge that he is not alone anymore. He does gets along well with most other dogs once he gets to know them but can be sensitive to the pack hierarchy due to what we believe is his time on the streets trying to survive. Jet does love to play, run and has a strong chase instinct (he loves his ball and Frisbee!) He is also quite happy to lay quietly on his bed or blanket in the sun or anywhere near his “humans”. He is fully house trained, is good in a car and loves the off leash park (if you are too slow getting ready to go he will talk and tell you quite vocally that you are just taking too much time getting him to his favorite place!). His foster family says he smiles and loves to talk! Jet just wants to be loved and will give it back in spades.
One thing that seems to be an issue since his ordeal is kenneling: Jet has major anxiety about kenneling and would have to go to a kennel free home. He may also require Medicam (an anti-inflammatory) from time to time to treat some ongoing inflammation at his leg injury site. (though it doesn't necessarily slow him down!). Xrays have shown that this should not cause any major problems as he ages.
Jet is a hearty, intelligent, eager to experience life kind of soul. He is loyal to a fault , has a lot of heart and personality and an inspiring amount of courage. He would be a great active partner for someone looking for a partner to jog with or just to hang out with - someone who they can count on to be up for anything.
Note from Jet – Come and spend some time with me and see what a great buddy I will be.
