My story

Meet Derby! Derby is a truly remarkable 6-year old GSD. Derby is an amazing GSD and why we love the breed. Her foster mom says, “My husband and I are relieved she's safe, but are perplexed how an amazing dog like Derby can end-up in a rescue, so are thankful for everything NWGSR has done for her.”

Derby respects pack structure with our two other dogs, waits to go through doorways, asks permission, looks to her humans for direction and is in constant communication, so enjoys having small jobs. Derby knows her sit and is working on her down, stay, kennel, quiet, leave-it, look-at-me. She also stopped dead in her tracks when called away from our cat and sat at my left-side looking-up at me for her next command. She will remain supervised around our cat to keep her set-up for success. Bonus is she's goofy, cuddly, and likes to play.

She prefers to be in communication with her human, so needs a leader that will direct her actions. I appreciate how she is always checking-in with us. We are working with her to not counter surf, not jump-up on the front door, and be patient for her treat-wrapped medication dose.

DERBY WILL BE AVAILABLE TO MEET POTENTIAL APPLICANTS ON AUGUST 8TH. SHE IS CURRENTLY RECOVERING FROM HAVING A SMALL BENIGN GROWTH REMOVED AND HAS SUTURES THAT ARE HEALING.
